Stepping stone to Cycle Roots CIC

Cycling and Blackburn • British bicycle sales overtook car sales for the first time ever in 2012 (McWilliam, 2012: online) • There is a 28% annual market growth (Mintel, 2012: online) • The current mean average price of a new bicycle is £248.45 (McWilliam, 2012: online) • Over 26% of people aged 16-45 within the borough do not own a bike due to affordability (Maher, McNally and Winser, 2013)

How We Got Rolling…

Key Aims of Cycle Roots CIC • Provide affordable alternative transport • Reduce waste to landfill • Help to reduce carbon footprints • Promote healthier lifestyles • Engage the community through cycling

Not Just a Second-Hand Bike Shop! Aims for the next 12 months: • Self Sustainability • Become a training provider • Working in partnership with other groups, agencies and organisations • Provide paid employment and volunteer opportunities

Where We Are Now • Available funding for Social Enterprises • Recycling Hub and future retail premises • Benefits of networking • Working with UCBC
