Electronic + Traditional Information Resources = HYBRID LIBRARY

NO CHOICE / NO TURNING BACK GO AHEAD

DEFINITIONS Types of Libraries

Hybrid Library - Electronic and traditional information resources.

1. Electronic Reference Sources versus Print Sources 1.1 A strong preference for electronic products. 1.2 User’s access to the material. 1.3 Electronic products networked or made available on the Web can reach many people simultaneously and remotely. 1.4 Ease of use is another critical factor for which we evaluate reference products.

1.5 Ease of reading the material online. 1.6 Include types of content unavailable in print: e.g graphical images, animation, multimedia & hypertext 1.7 Permanence of information that a library receives in electronic form. May not be permanent, due to the uncertainties of the technologies. Electronic Reference Sources versus Print Sources

1.8 Electronic products may be more costly for libraries than their print counterparts 1.9 Library collections will contain a mix of formats. Decisions will continue to be made based on what serves the library’s users best with the most efficient use of funds. 1.10 Important to integrate the new technologies with the old.

Challenges: First All libraries at any level of sophistication, young, maturing or adult must aim to be an e- information provider. Build more networks, produce new services in cooperation will all kinds of libraries to deliver virtual services.

Third Create a new librarian – the most important is to transform the librarian from an information provider into a knowledge provider; that is from someone who merely give access to information to someone who more actively supports the user in acquiring the needed knowledge.
