Pensioners = 7915000 EPS 95 Pensioners = 4450000 PSU pensioners = 0700000 adding them, figure goes to 1,82,61000 By 2019 this figure will be well over 2 crores Aim is to consolidate 123 million Sr. Citizen voters through18.261 million pensioners. Effective literacy among senior Citizens is 33% more than 40% of whom are superannuated persons Financial position 30% below poverty line 36% just above poverty line 2 8% middle class 6% Well to do i.e. upper middle class Slide11: Financial Security i.e. in case of pensioners, adequate pension to ensure living to the standard at which they were living during their productive years. For other Sr citizens adequate universal pension for dignified survival. Healthcare . if adequate quality healthcare not provided now. By 2050 it will be a nation of limping poor oldies. Govt. should wake up. Social security i.e. peaceful healthy life with dignity Issues involved Slide12: Demographical aging has hit the Indian shores as well. People are living longer , life expectancy is steadily rising & fertility declining by 2050 elderly population will be more than 20% of total population. Slide13: With the population 15-59 yrs group touching 50% in 2011, declining population of 0-6 age group due to high infant mortality , high mortality rate of expectant young mothers during delivery, declining fertility rate but overall life expectancy going higher(76Yrs) , India’s elderly population is on fast track & is already at 9.3%+ of total population of 132,26,32,742 (2016) Electoral strength of elderly will also go on increasing in coming years. Slide14: To be able to influence the Government decisions we have to keep two things in mind. 1.Our Political clan understands only the language of vote bank & 2.Our Bureaucrats care for nuisance value. Slide15: Matured & responsible Sr citizens of the country can not think of nuisance value Slide16: Elderly have 12.25% share in Indian Electoral. Average voting percentage in Indian elections is now 66.4% . Slide17: voting percentage of 60+persons in every election is staggering 90%.Thus actual vote share of Sr citizens is now almost 1 6.6%.which is sufficient to turn the tables why then Sr citizen should feel helpless! They are still capable of turning the tides Slide18: The literate section of Sr. citizen of which 40% are superannuated persons (including those who are not Govt. Pensioners) ,which is the section of intelligent voters . A work force of 30,00000 spread over the country can be created. Slide19: streamline & interlink already available resources i.e. websites, Blogs, other Social networking sites & Monthly Journals which several of Sr. Citizen & Pensioners’ organizations publish! Slide20: Go down to grass roots covering rural & urban India. We can still do wonders Slide21: The need of the hour is communication,coordination&consolidation. Rising above cast/creed, Sex, Provincial, linguistic & political divides. Work for the consolidation of Sr Citizen vote Bank. Slide22: Sr. Citizen & pensioners organizations Should Work in their own fields with a common Road Map i.e. 1.Communicate 2.Co-ordinate 3.Consolidate 4.Empowerment through awareness, education & information. Different organizations at different levels should work as a team & not as competitors Communicate: Communicate Amongst yourself, With sister organizations , local leaders, Local administration , media & the Civil Society Slide24: National level Apex body A Conglomerate of pensioners’& Sr Citizens organizations to communicate & co ordinate between Sr citizen & pensioners at all levels Co ordinate Slide25: Pensioners & Sr Citizen organizations should strive jointly & severally for common issues, without disturbing identity & internal autonomy of participants Consolidate Slide26: Sr. Citizen & pensioners’ organizations to empower their members through dissemination of information, awareness & education through personal contacts , journals , Web sites &other social media network Empowerment Slide27: Link & create network of Organizations. Stream line existing resources like Journals, Web sites etc and create a media network. Share thoughts, information & resource. Remember! : Remember!
