It is differs from the traditional customary. Defining Ecotourism : Defining Ecotourism The term Ecotourism emerged in the late 1980s. Since then it becomes a debated term and defined in different ways, by different groups of people with different agenda “Ecotourism is nature-based tourism that involves education and interpretation of the natural environment and is managedto be ecologically sustainable.” (Australian National Ecotourism Strategy 1994) : “Ecotourism is nature-based tourism that involves education and interpretation of the natural environment and is managedto be ecologically sustainable.” (Australian National Ecotourism Strategy 1994) Concept of eco-tourism : Concept of eco-tourism The current situation of eco-tourism in Egypt in terms of economics Currently the Arab Region specially Egypt is expanding its tourism industries across a number of tourism segments. These includes, Heritage and nature based tourism, business and travel conferencing, beach and sport –oriented leisure activities, and family oriented vacations Characteristics of Ecotourism : Characteristics of Ecotourism Low-impact on the natural, cultural resources Sensitivity towards, and appreciation of local culture and biodiversity Support for local conservation Characteristics of Ecotourism : Characteristics of Ecotourism Sustainable benefits to local communities Local participation in decision making Educational components for both traveler and local communities Status in Egypt : Status in Egypt The Protected Area Network (PAN) represents most of the habitats and ecosystems of Egypt; however, there are other important hotspots, which will be included in the future. Plans are in place to increase the number of Protectorates to 40 and the land area covered to 17% by the year 2017. Benefit sharing. Enhancing public awareness for the role of ecotourism. Establish well trained staff to involve in ecotourism aspects or capacity building.
