1. Brian De Palma (born in 1940), is a popular American film screenwriter and film director. Over his career of 40 years, he is best known for his crime thriller/suspense films. For instance, he directed successful films such as ‘Scarface’, ‘Carlito’s way’ and ‘Mission Impossible’ Brian De Palma is often cited as a leading member of the ‘New Hollywood’ generation of directors. His gangster films (Scarface/Carlito’s Way) pushed the boundaries and conventions of violence and depravity. What is most interesting, is that the style and content between the two films vary greatly (Carlito’s Wys is more of an emotional tragedy). In some ways showing his transition and development as a film director. As a director, his films fall into two categories, psychological thrillers and commercial films. He is known for doing many films of the same genre one after the other before moving on. But always returns to similar territory. He uses lots of graphic violence, and so his films are often the centre of controversy with critics. He also enjoys quoting and referencing other work of directors throughout his career.
2. Ruben Fleischer is a contemporary American film director. Best known for ‘Zombie land’, ‘30 Minutes or Less’ and ‘Gangster Squad’. He started his career as a freelance director for many productions, including sorts such as music videos before landing the director role for ‘Zombie land’ (2009). His style for films have much more modernised approaches. For instance, there is a larger use of special effects to portray specific ideas. To some extent his films conform to the ‘Hollywood style’ of action films with multiple uses of explosions and effects. His work has received mixed reviews from the audience, critics and the Motion Picture association. However, Ruben Fleischer’s career is just beginning, and so there will be many opportunities to show off his capabilities in the variety of plots and genres.
3. Brian De Palma Ruben Fleischer Believed to be one of the ‘New Hollywood’ generation of directors In most of his films he strayed from general conventions, such as including graphic violence. Thus the reas0n for mixed reviews for his work Development as a director is seen through the variation in his films Brian De Palma has his own strategy and approach to filmmaking One of the newest directors in the filmmaking business In his previous films, he has chosen to conform to genre conventions To some extent, his films can be categorised as the conventional ‘Hollywood’ films with lots of special effects and editing. Has a much more traditional approach, with minimal special effects. The fact that he is a new director, could perhaps suggest that his work will develop over time to show many different approaches to genres ect.
