Lesson 1: Learning Objectives What is a learning center? : For this workshop, we will define a learning center as a multimedia presentation created to guide a student (or small group) through a variety of instructional activities. These activities are used to introduce, reinforce, or extend curriculum content. The teacher becomes a facilitator to learning versus the sole provider of information. What is a learning center? Interactives: A number of free resources are available on the Internet to help students understand an assortment of topics. Portability: Activities can be completed on the teacher’s computer, in a computer lab or commons area, with COWs in the classroom, or even taken home on a flash drive! It is also important to remember learning centers are “fluid.” Like any lesson plan, you should continue to adjust and modify the center to improve its effectiveness.
