Diagnostic Technology Used in Orthopedics By Cal Sports & Orthopedics

Introduction  Diagnosing and treating a wide range of orthopedic conditions, Cal Sports & Orthopedics has offices in Berkeley and Orinda, California. With a group of orthopedic specialists operating from one practice, Cal Sports & Orthopedics uses a variety of technologies to reveal and diagnose musculoskeletal injuries and abnormalities. The most common diagnostics used are ultrasound technology, X-rays, and MRIs (magnetic resonance imaging).

Using UltraSounds  High-resolution ultrasound utilizes sonic waves to produce images of tissues such as ligaments and muscles in any part of the body. This diagnostic technology is often used in a live setting to produce quick diagnoses. Digital radiography and traditional X-rays are typically used to reveal abnormalities or injuries that affect hard tissues such as cartilage and bone. An additional method employed to diagnose a range of conditions from arthritis to injuries affecting tendons or ligaments, MRIs, utilize radio wave energy and a magnetic field to produce images that illustrate the hard and soft tissues. Like other technologies, MRIs are used to view the internal areas of any part of the body.
