5. Social Bookmarking You may search del.icio.us using terms you associate with a topic to see what others have tagged on that same subject. Others may see any bookmarks you choose to share. Others may “network” with you - they can always have a look at your links (and vice-versa).

8. Set It Up at the Reference Desk Keep del.icio.us logged in at all of your reference desk computers simultaneously. You will need to log in again after the history is cleared from your browser. Use del.icio.us buttons as you browse.

9. Install del.icio.us buttons http://del.icio.us/help/ or “help” link. Under “bookmarking,” select: “internet explorer buttons.” If you use a different browser at home, select “bookmarklet buttons for any browser.”

11. Using del.icio.us buttons Takes you to the del.icio.us account that you are logged in to, or to the main page of del.icio.us if you are not signed on. Use to save links to web pages that you would like to access later.

12. Exercise 2 Find 2-3 websites to save to your del.icio.us account. For each site: Use the “TAG” button to bring up the tagging window. Fill in the form. 14. Public Computer Use You may access your links from anywhere in the world, as long as you have the Internet available.

17. Browsing Tags If you select a tag from your site (or someone else’s), you will isolate the list of links that carry the chosen tag. You will also be shown a list of tags that are related to the resulting list. This may help you to find other related topics.

18. Browsing Tags Once you have clicked on a tag, you will see a list of links with that tag (in the account you are viewing). Refine browsing through this new list by clicking the “+” symbol next to the second list of tags that appears. Undo your refinement by clicking “remove” next to the tag.

19. Tag Options -1 A Tag cloud shows a visual representation of tags – larger and bolder tags were used more frequently. A Tag list displays vertically, and can be configured to display according to frequency of use in descending order, or alphabetically. With the list display, the number of links can be shown.

20. Tag Options -2 You can suppress tags that have been used less often (5, 2 or 1 times). Tag Bundles allow you to put your tags in more logical groupings. The tag editing feature lets you rename or delete the tags you have used.

21. Working with Tags Without tags, your del.icio.us page will look like a large list of random sites. Your goal is to AVOID paging through your sites. Don’t be afraid to use lots of tags – remember, your goal is to make your link findable. While you are tagging, give your links good descriptions.

25. Posting History Lists every user who has saved a particular link.
