Degrees of Adjectives ● Comparative - Used to compare two things or groups of things ◦ Inferiority less + adjective (+ than) Examples: Lisbon is less populated than Madrid. Lisbon is less large than Madrid. Lisbon is less noisy than Madrid. ◦ Equality as + adjective + as Examples: London is as populated as Madrid. London is as large as Madrid. London is as noisy as Madrid.

◦ Superiority adjectives with1 or 2 syllables adjective + er (+ than) Note: CVC- double the consonant Y=i Examples: Paris is larger than Lisbon. Lisbon is hotter than Paris. Paris is noisier than Lisbon. adjectives with 2 or more syllables more + adjective (+than) Examples: Paris is more populated than Lisbon. Paris is more fashionable than Lisbon.

● Superlative - Used to compare 3 or more things and to pick out one thing as more ‘X’ than all the others. adjectives with1 or 2 syllables the + adjective + est Examples: Russia is the largest country in the world. Delhi is the noisiest city in the world. Bangkok is the hottest ciy in the world. adjectives with 2 or more syllables the most + adjective Examples: Tokyo is the most populated city in the world. New York is the most fashionable city.
