Dean Aston LBI: Adam Berkowitz sent a job proposal to the company he wanted to work for. In the Proposal he stated how he would help the company in 30, 60 and 90 day increments. He also told the company why they needed him for the position that they had not yet thought of yet. This kind of initiative and dedication to knowing a company could be just what you need to land that next job you want.

Most people would never think to send a job proposal to the company you want to work for. Adam Berkowitz did just that. He emailed the company he wanted to work at, with a “Job Proposal Memo.” Inside the email he gives a summary of what he plans to accomplish in 30, 60 and 90 days while in a given role at a company. This tactic is similar to a cover letter but has a lot more focus on how each of the stages will be accomplished. He then summed it all up with a paragraph describing his desire to meet and discuss the position and answer any questions that his prospective employer might have about the memo he had just sent. Although the job Adam Berkowitz “applied” for had not been created yet, he went ahead and studied the company. His research showed that the company might need the skills he possessed. They just hadn’t created the position yet. This amount of effort showed the company that he had put a lot of thought and time into the position that he was trying to fill. It also showed the company CEO that he was not only thinking of himself, but how that new position could in turn help the company to achieve its own goals and objectives. This tactic to get a new job is nothing more than bridging a communication gap between the recruiter and the candidate. A gap exists when a candidate is a good fit for a job, but did a poor job communicating that they can do the job well. Perhaps including this job proposal memo is the future of hiring as we know it. It could give you the crucial insight about a potential candidate that you wouldn’t have seen in a regular interview and or application.
