Common Myths About Laser Hair Removal Written by: Neetu Thakar on March 3rd 2014 Laser hair removal treatment can help you look your best, but there are many myths surrounding it! As far as hair removal techniques go, laser hair removal is by far the newest. Treatments like waxing, threading, and plucking have all been around for many years, and some even go as far back as thousands of years! But laser hair removal has been only available to the public for about twenty years. Because of this, many people are unsure about how it works, what it can do, and what the benefits of it are over other hair removal options. So let’s clear up some of the myths about laser hair removal. Myth 1: Laser Hair Removal Is Not Safe For Me! Laser hair removal was experimented on and refined for nearly twenty years before it was finally approved by Health Canada. It has been performed for many years in clinics around the world, and with very little negative reactions. Occasionally, you may experience swelling or redness along with mild pain, but this passes fairly quickly. There can also be blistering or scarring as well, but this is very rare. The risk of damage is higher on darker skin, but new methods are currently being developed which solve this issue.

Myth 2: Laser Hair Removal Works the Same for All Hair Types That would be nice, but it’s not true. Each person is different, and there are many factors to consider. The thickness of your hair, its colour, your skin colour, skin sensitivity, and more can all play a role in how effective laser hair removal treatment will be for you. Before you begin a laser hair removal treatment, we will consult with you to discover your skin’s unique needs, and how effective laser hair removal will be for you. Myth 3: Laser Hair Removal Will Expose Me To Radiation! This is reasonable to assume. After all, most lasers do emit radiation. But the way the laser is designed, the radiation doesn’t come out of the laser’s light barriers. Basically what that means is that you won’t be exposed to any radiation in your laser hair removal treatment. So no worries there. Myth 4: I Have to Shave Between Laser Hair Removal Treatments While you can shave in between laser hair removal treatments if you need to, it’s not necessary. In fact, it’s better not to shave for at least a few days before treatment, to help the laser target your hairs. Myth 5: Laser Hair Removal Will Get Rid of My Hair in One Shot This would be nice, but it isn’t true. Laser hair removal takes multiple treatments to remove all your hair, since your hair grows in cycles, so laser hair removal can’t target everything at once. I hope this clears up some of your misconceptions about laser hair removal! To discover more, take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions page, which has a section on laser hair removal.
