Description

COMBATTING PLAGIARISM – ADAPTING BLACKBOARD’S QUIZ TOOLS TO TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

Sarah Grayston, University of Stirling

This session will demonstrate how The University of Stirling, using Blackboard’s quiz tools, provides extra plagiarism guidance to students and records that students have understood some of the basic concepts surrounding plagiarism, referencing and the penalties incurred. The session aims to inform attendees how we have developed the quiz and how other institutions could easily create something similar.
Session Outline:
• Analyse current institutional plagiarism documentation identifying which key point’s students must understand.
• Construct simple questions using the Blackboard quiz tools with directed feedback and providing further in question help using Blackboard’s inbuilt JavaScript.
• Integrate the test into modules and utilise the adaptive release tools to ensure students have understood the topic.
• •Discuss future developments.
