Slide 1: THE TIME HAS COME TO LIVE AS A MISSIONARY Slide 2: “I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do…For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed.” - Acts 13:22,36 Slide 3: The Time Has Come to Live As A Missionary Slide 4: It is a lifestyle directed by the Holy Spirit and marked by a passion to make disciples and gather them together for His worship and glory. It is everyday Christ followers living as missionaries in their communities. What is the Heart of Epoch? Slide 5: An extended period of time ushered in by the brokenness and faithful praying of God’s people, which results in the sending of everyday Christ followers into the harvest to make genuine Christ followers (disciples) and establish relationship-based faith communities that result in lost people coming to know Christ. Slide 6: “Change the Campus Change the World!” Dr. Bill Bright Campus Crusade The Time Has Come to Live As A Missionary Slide 7: You can revolutionize the world! Slide 8: “Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying 'One sows and another reaps' is true.” -John 4:35-37 Slide 12: The Time Has Come to Live As A Missionary We must redefine success…moving from a focus upon harvesting alone to a focus upon sowing the gospel. Slide 13: The Harvester and The Sower End Results Preparing the Way Proclamation Persuasion Immediate Results Gradual Change Individual Effort Team Impact Points of Disagreement Common Ground Answers Questions Justice Love Courage Wisdom Science Art From Finding Common Ground by Tim Downs Slide 14: Many of the great revival and missionary movements started on campuses. 77% of all Christians make a decision for Christ before the age of 21. There are over 550,000 international students attending American universities. 80% of high school students who attend church before college do not return after high school. 18-25 year-olds are the least likely age group to attend church. Less than 4% of the college student population is Christian. Why Are Campuses Important? Slide 15: The Time Has Come to Live As A Missionary Our campus ministries and our churches must become mission outposts who send their members into the fields to live as missionaries! Slide 16: Igniting Passion In Everday Christ Followers To Live as Missionaries On Their Campus Slide 18: THE TIME HAS COME TO LIVE AS A MISSIONARY Slide 19: “For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” -Romans 12:3-5 Form a Team Form a small team for ministering in the harvest that shares a passion for making disciples. Slide 20: “On the contrary, they saw that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as Peter had been to the Jews.” -Galatians 2:7 Identify a People or Place Identify a particular group of people or a place that needs the gospel. Slide 21: “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” -Colossians 4:2-6 Find & Understand Receptive People Connect with individuals in your selected audience and gain an understanding of their culture, beliefs, values, and their perceptions of Christians and Christianity. Slide 22: “Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’” -John 20:21 “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” -Matthew 5:16 Live Incarnationally Introduce your group to Christ by living a life that embodies Him. Slide 23: “Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” -Philippians 2:4 Build Authentic Community Create environments that connect people to do life together in authentic relationships. Slide 24: “Therefore go and make disciple of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:19-20 Make Disciples Make disciples who multiply themselves. Slide 25: “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.” -1 Chronicles 16:29 “They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” -Acts 2:42 Gather for His Worship & Glory Gather people and form faith communities for God’s worship and glory. Slide 26: “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.” -2 Timothy 2:2 Multiply Multiply disciples, leaders, teams, and faith communities.
