Communication Arts • A way of expressing one’s thoughts and feelings in words and gestures. • It deals with the proper way of communicating with other people. • It covers the four macro-skills which are speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
What is Literature?
Literature • The body of written works of a language, period, or culture. • Imaginative or creative writing, especially of recognized artistic value.

China is the only country in the world with a literature written in one language for more than 3,000 consecutive years. It was first recorded about 5,000 years ago, since documented the dreams and visions of the people.b

Four Greatest Poets During Tang Dynasty Wang Wei Li-Po To-Fu Po-Chu-I
1. Wang Wei His works are mostly about nature.
2. Li-Po/Li Bo His works focused on the continuity of traditional poetry, and it shows his glorification with wine.
3.To-Fu/ Du Fu Most of his poems are autobiographical and historical, showing the effects of war in his life.
4.Po-Chu-I His works reflects the governments’ effects on the lives of ordinary people in a humorous way.
Drama is another old and important literary form. Chinese drama usually combines vernacular language with music and song and thus has been popular with the common people. Peking Opera, one of the local operas, which is probably the best known of several operatic traditions that developed in China. Chinese opera is a favorite artistic and cultural medium.
Early Chinese novels often stressed character development and usually centered on an adventure or supernatural happening; “Dream of the Red Chamber”, probably China's most famous novel.

TANG POETRY Tang Dynasty is the period when poetry was flourishing. There are 2,300 poets and 50,000 poems. The most famous poets were Wang Wei, Li-Po, To-Fu, and Po-Chu-I. 300 Tang Poems 唐诗三百首 is a collection of Tang poems.

Peking Opera China has many local operas. Peking opera is one of them. It has a history of over 200 years.
