In 2001, China was the 10th largest wood products exporter in the world, based on value (FAO statistics --- not including pulp and paper or furniture). China’s wood products exports in 2001 were greater than either Malaysia’s or Brazil’s, and were double the export value of Chile’s wood products exports. China’s wood products exports continue to increase, jumping 22.7% in value between 2001 and 2002. Japan is the top market for Chinese wood product exports, followed closely by the USA. China is the second largest supplier of wood products to the US, by value. China has quickly become a net exporter of plywood, with major markets being Korea, Japan, the US, and the Middle East.
