When do we use REFLEXIVE VERBS? I shave myself. Yo me afeito. Slide 3: Reflexive verbs are accompanied by reflexive pronouns. The reflexive pronouns are: me te se nos (and os for vosotros, if you are in Spain! se Slide 4: When I am doing an action to myself, the reflexive pronoun is ____. me Yo me baño. To say that someone else bathes himself, the pronoun is ____. se Raúl se baña. Slide 5: If WE are training ourselves, the reflexive pronoun is ____. nos Nosotros nos entrenamos. To say that others train themselves, the pronoun is ____. se Ellos se entrenan. Slide 6: Notice that the verbs are still conjugated the way they always have been: Yo me baño. Raúl se baña. Tú te bañas. Nosotros nos _________. bañamos Ustedes se ______. bañan Slide 7: To help yourself perform better on the test, you should be able to name all of the reflexive verbs we’ve learned in chapter 7. There are 12 verbs total. It may help to think about all of the things you do in a day: Slide 8: First thing in the morning: Wake up, get up. Then you bathe yourself. You might shave, comb, or put makeup on yourself. Brush your teeth. Exercise --- stretch, then train. At the end of the day, take off your clothes, put on p.j.s, lay down. Slide 9: Now, in Spanish: Despertarse, levantarse. Bañarse. Afeitarse, peinarse, o maquillarse. Lavarse los dientes. Estirarse, entrenarse. Quitarse la ropa, ponerse los piyamas. ¡Acostarse! Slide 10: Now, try to list these on your own. You should be able to come up with TWELVE!!! Slide 11: OK, that seems easy. But what about conjugation? Please tell me how I get from this: To this: afeitarse Él se afeita. Slide 12: This is the word from your book (or the dictionary). It is in the INFINTIVE form. If I want to say that “he” shaves, I first have to take the reflexive pronoun off of the end of the word, and put it before the verb. Of course, I have to conjugate the verb! afeitarse Él ___ __________. se afeita. afeitar Slide 13: Él ___ __________. afeitarse Whoa! Can I see that again? ¡Claro! afeita se Slide 14: Now that you know the verbs, use them to tell what’s going on in the following pictures: .gov photos Slide 15: On your own, translate the following: My mom combs (herself). They train (work out). You and I brush our teeth. She gets up. Luisa lays down. Diego shaves. You (plural) put makeup on. I wake up at six. Slide 16: Hopefully now you are able to use reflexive verbs! ¡Adiós! ¡Chao!
