The Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia and the education system (1) The Catalan Statute of Autonomy of 1979 establishes that the Government’s Education Department is responsible for the educational system administration. In 2006 the new Catalan Statute of Autonomy is approved which specifies the exclusive Catalan competences in education and those that are shared with the State government.

According to the law: “ The Catalan language shall normally be used as the vehicle for learning and non-university teaching .” Law 1/1998, of January 7, of language policy

Catalan is used throughout all the educational period . Catalan is used in the schooling area because a language that is not used can not be learned. We take into account and valorise the different languages and cultures of the students’ families because the roots are important and help us to enrich us as a society . School ensures the teaching/learning of the Catalan language, of the Spanish language, and, at least, of a foreign language. As for languages, in school ...
