Patel College of Pharmacy, Kapadwanj CARE REQUIRED IN DISPENSING PROCEDURES: CARE REQUIRED IN DISPENSING PROCEDURES Dispensing means to prepare and supply of a medicine to an individual, in accordance with the prescription of a practitioner. For proper dispensing of medicines, it is necessary that a student pharmacist should have a sound knowledge of various branches of pharmacy. WHILE WORKING IN THE DISPENSING LABORATORY FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION SHOULD BE FOLLOWED: WHILE WORKING IN THE DISPENSING LABORATORY FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION SHOULD BE FOLLOWED Pharmacist is required to work independently in retail pharmacy. So it becomes necessary for him to work on his own. In order to build up the confidence , the student is required to avoid the tempetation to lean on his fellow students for help. In case any advice is needed, it should be obtained from teacher who will come to know the difficulties of individual students. It will help the teacher to amend his teaching techniques for the benefit of the students. PowerPoint Presentation: Always wear a white apron. It helps to protect the clothes and reduces contamination of dispensed product with fibers and other foreign particles. Moreover, it creates a good impression in the eyes of the public. Keep a duster, clean glass-cloth and sponge in drawer. The glass cloth is required for polishing containers before issue to the patients. Duster is needed for wiping the bench. Sponge is needed for cleaning the surfaces of the balance and also to mope-up wet spillage PowerPoint Presentation: Read the prescription carefully. Make sure that it is legally correct and there is no doubt in understanding it. Consult the pharmacopeia or any other reference book , in case there is a need to find the formula of the preparation. Check the doses of preparation which are meant for internal use. Check that there is no incompatibility in the preparation. Prepare the label as per requirement of the container. PowerPoint Presentation: Fix the label to the container. Check the finished preparation. Maintain the record of the preparation which is dispensed. The name of the drug written in the prescription should not be confused with other drug. E.g., digitoxin should not be given inspite of digoxin. The proper dose should be given. Proper care should be given to drug dose time interval. Instruction should be provided related to the drug interaction, its incompatibilities with other drugs etc. PowerPoint Presentation: Form of the drug is one of the most important factors which influence its therapeutic efficiency. So, the form of the drug should be proper to give its maximum effect. Abbreviation creates a problem in dispensing drug, so while prescibing the drug, proper representation should be done.
