Slide1:          1. Booklets in this series: 1. The Land of Canaan in Type and Shadow 2. The Canaanites in Type and Shadow 3. The Menorah in Type and Shadow 4. The Lamps and the Seven Spirits of God Dale Streit Missoula, Montana April 1981 THE CANAANITES IN TYPE AND SHADOW USED AS TYPES FOR PERSONAL OVERCOMING Greetings! About 3,400 BC, Israel conquered Canaan under the leadership of Joshua. The purpose of this study is to discover what that represents for each one of God's children. Those actions represent profound truths and can safely guide us in our striving to overcome. We should understand that God prepared the land of Canaan, its inhabitants and its conquerors to serve as examples and shadows of both earthly and heavenly matters. To simplify this study it has been divided into four parts: first, the land of Canaan, secondly the Canaanites, thirdly, how to overcome as revealed in the Menorah, and fourthly, what we will inherit in the Lamps and the Seven Spirits of God. This pamphlet is the second part. Those seven nations of Canaan represent seven specific things within the spirit of fallen humanity. God hates these things and He used these nations for types when He was talking to Israel: Ezekiel 16:1-3 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusa- lem; Thy birth and thy nativity [is] of the land of Canaan; thy father [was] an Amorite, and THE …in type and shadow CANAANITES Slide2:          2. thy mother an Hittite. Ezekiel 16:44,45 Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use [this] proverb against thee, As [is] the mother, [so is] her daughter. Thou [art] thy mother's daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and thou [art] the sister of thy sisters, which lothed their husbands and their children: your mother [was] an Hittite, and your father an Amorite. This spirit despises and hates superior authority. It is rebellious and wars against it. This spirit also despises those whom it can influence. God calls this a HITTITE spirit. It is only one of the seven Canaanites. We must discover what these seven nations represent within us. If we do not conquer them according to the scripture, they will continue to influence us all our lives, and we will never fully possess our souls. These seven things are NOT evil spirits that can be cast out of us. However, many believers do not understand that. These seven spirits cannot even be tamed. The only solution is to attack them and UTTERLY DESTROY them within ourselves as God directs us. It is an individual effort. Others cannot destroy them for us. Deuteronomy 7:2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, [and] utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew   mercy unto them: We also need to understand where the battlefield is, and what those things are in us that we are NOT to destroy, but only to tame. I pray that God will bless our hearts and minds while we investigate and consider the Holy Scriptures. Dale Streit 2. WORD DEFINITIONS: BODY, SOUL, SPIRIT AND MIND: BODY = The combination of flesh, bone, blood, nerves, organs, glands, etc. SOUL = This is our awareness of things around us through our senses of tasting, seeing, hearing, smelling and touching. It is our soul that reacts with emotions of pleasure or displeasure, with reasoning and decision making. (Luke 12:19; Heb. 10:38)) SPIRIT = The innermost part of us that works to discern situations, sets the standard for our personal behavior and works to conform us to those around us. Our spirits manifest through our souls. MIND = Our natural mind is a set of chosen perceptions, ideas, judgments, values, goals motivations, etc. by which we judge ourselves and others. It is usually as difficult to change minds as it is to change the laws of government. There is also a carnal mind, and a spiritual mind that our natural mind is often caught between.   Slide3:          3.     that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. These things may not seem like abomina- tions to us, but they are abominations to God. The reason God finds them abominable, is because they replace God’s Spirit in humanity. These spirits or attitudes can motivate our actions. Luke 9:55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. 4. SEVEN SPIRITS OF GOD God’s Spirit is a single Spirit, but it has se-ven parts or functions to it. Even though the first function carries the name and the other six functions have different names, it is all the Spirit of the Lord. In the same pattern, the Canaanites were also a single people, but they were divided into seven small nations. Although the first of them carried the name Canaanite, and the other six have different names, they are ALL "Canaanites.“ Isaiah prophesied that the seven Spirits of God would rest upon the Messiah: Isaiah 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the Compare: A carnal mind is enmity against God, is not subject to God, and cannot become subject (Rom. 8:7). It is reprobate. A natural mind can choose to be renewed by submitting to and receiving God’s Spirit (Eph. 4:23). A spiritual mind is one that is becoming full of peace and the life of Christ. (Rom. 8:6). 3. WHY ARE THERE ONLY SEVEN NATIONS OF CANAANITES? The scriptures inform us that there were exactly seven nations of Canaanites in existence when Israel came in to possess the land. Originally, Canaan had more than seven nations in it, but God waited until the number of nations reduced to seven. This way, they could become a perfect type. God wanted those seven nations to represent seven abominations that He observes inside all humanity. Proverbs 26:25 When he speaketh fair, be- lieve him not: for [there are] seven abomi- nations in his heart. What are these seven abominations? Proverbs 6:16-19 These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart   Slide4:          4.   image and likeness of God. Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: With only a fallen human spirit with which we were born, we can never know God: 1Cor. 2:11,12 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.  6. SPIRITUAL BIRTH To receive another spirit that is of God, we need to experience another birth - a birth from heaven. We need God to be more than just our Creator, we need Him to become our Father. This can only happen through the Son of God, Jesus Christ: 1Pet. 1:23 Being born again, not of cor- ruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. This process begins when God’s Word penetrates our conscience. This is our spiritual conception. Then, Christ is formed in us until we develop enough to be born of the Spirit:  fear of the LORD;   Jesus testified: Revelation 3:1 ... These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, ..... Here is a list which compares the opposite sides: God’s Holy Spirit: Man’s fallen spirit: The Spirit of the Lord.......the Canaanite Wisdom............................the Jebusite Understanding..................the Hivite Counsel............................the Perizzite Might................................the Girgashite Knowledge........................the Amorite Fear of the Lord.................the Hittite 5. A FALLEN HUMAN SPIRIT God did not create man with a fallen spirit. In the beginning, God said: Genesis 1:26 ... Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: Because of this, Adam’s spirit was a likeness or mirror-image of God’s seven-fold Spirit. It was clean, it was good, it was holy, but it was immature.   Adam lived by God’s Spirit rather than by his own; but by making the right choices, Adam would have grown up into Christ in everything. When he fell, Adam lost the seven Spirits of God and he became full of fears. Adam's immature human spirit became deformed. This is why all human babies are born in Adam’s image and likeness instead of the   Slide5:          5.   invited. If he finds the “problem” repeating itself again and again, then it is not an evil spirit problem, it is a Canaanite problem. The person should face it and overcome it. None of us can choose the time or the place to do our overcoming. God makes the choice for us. We cannot even choose which Canaanite we are to fight. Again, it is God’s choice for us. Our own efforts only develop bigger and stronger Canaanites. 8. INFANT CANAANITES Sometimes, a person's Canaanites are undeveloped. It is impossible for these people to be converted while this is true. They seem to be basically “good” people. They don't perceive the necessity to change. Their soul is flowing with milk and honey. Their pride has not yet come to its full iniquity. In other words, their Amorite has not matured enough. Many ignorant believers are also in this place. They are, and always have been good, moral people. They feel insulted when someone suggests that they might be full of “Canaanites” keeping their gardens, milking their cows and gathering their honey. The rich young ruler was a good type of this condition: Luke 18:18-27 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none [is] good, save one, [that is], God. Thou knowest the   Gal. 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you, When we become new-born of the Spirit, it does not mean that we have all of the seven Spirits of God within us. The apostle Paul wanted believers… Eph. 3:19 ... to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Until our souls are completely filled with the seven Spirits of God, we still have the seven abominations or Canaanites in them. This is why it is necessary for Christians to become overcomers. 7. WE MUST OVERCOME Because it is not common for Christians to be taught that we must overcome, and WHAT we must overcome, some of us might think that evil spirits are possessing us. That is not necessarily true. When we make bad choices, we feed our human nature. This simply strengthens our “Canaanites,” and weakens our new-man. Consequently war is waged to repossess our souls. This is just the law of sowing and reaping in action. Honest repentance and recommit-ment to God will turn the tide of battle. If someone really believes that he is possessed with a non-human evil spirit, cast it out! If it really IS an evil spirit, it HAS to leave, and it will not come back unless it is actively   Slide6:          6. us, they begin to feel threatened. They sense that they are “losing control.” If they do not realize the truth, such people will return to their particular “Egypt.” Every human being has Canaanites. Even Jesus had Canaanites that he had to learn to “smite, and utterly destroy.” Where did Jesus get them? He got them from trying to grow through the “dry ground” of human society. Isaiah 53:2,3 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Hebrews 2:16-18 For verily he took not on [him the nature of] angels; but he took on [him] the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto [his] brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things [pertaining] to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Jesus’ half-brother James told us... James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they that heard [it] said, Who then can be saved? And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. God and Jesus know how to work in these situations. Luke 1:53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.   Luke 5:31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. Many people believe they are already good enough, but they are walking in a blind confidence! When such people come among Slide7:          7.    The usage of a word determines its meaning. This is a basic law of languages. Therefore, we begin with Strong's system which numbers each word in the Bible. This will allow us to find the origin of each name and to to cross reference with other books that also use Strong’s numbers.   Our goal is to find accurate definitions of each name and follow the “evolution” of each name until we find its primary meanings. Our final definition should be the total sum of its meanings. Then, that definition must be proven by its useage in the Bible. Using this method, we present: A. THE HITTITE Strongs #2850 ytx {{khit-tee'} Hittite = "descendant of Heth" -the nation descended from Heth, the 2nd son of Canaan. -from #2845: {khayth} Heth = "terror" -from #2865: {khaw-thath'} a primitive root. Passive form: to be shattered, be dismayed, be broken, be abolished, be afraid. Aggressive form: to cause to be dismayed, to dismay, to terrify, to shatter. The HITTITE (one of the seven wicked nations) manifests a spirit of criticism. When it is in control, it produces hatred and murder. Look how God described the Hittite spirit when he spoke to the city of Jerusalem: Eze. 16:44,45 Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use [this] proverb against Some of these “lusts” are Canaanites. Each one of the seven draws us away from the ways of God. These Canaanites are not the kind of evil spirits that can enter into a man and possess him. That kind can be cast out. We are talking about an Old-Human/Canaanite spirit that cannot be expelled. We must “smite and utterly destroy it” to be free. This can only happen if we will submit and obey Jesus Christ. Overcoming is the only way to KNOW the fulness of Christ, and also, it is the only way for Christ to know us! Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 9. FINDING THE MEANINGS This booklet is written with the following conviction: IT IS A MISTAKE TO ASSUME THAT YOUR SEVEN BIGGEST PROBLEMS ARE YOUR “CANAANITES.” Different people have different problems. If these Canaanites represent something common to all humanity (which I strongly believe they do,) then we cannot trust our own opinions. We need the truth! To draw close to the truth, we need to follow a rule that can be examined by anyone. This, in itself, will not guarantee the complete truth, but it will hinder the influence of our own opinions. This, coupled with experience will narrow the field.   Slide8:          8.   influence all higher authorities, either directly or through others. He lives to please himself and disregards the spiritual and emotional needs of others. A minister who tries to dominate the church members or even other ministers and their churches. This spirit even gives God advice and resists Him at every turn. Does this HITTITE spirit affect God? Yes! On page 8 we read Eze. 16:44,45 but... Eze. 16:43 Because thou hast not remember- ed the days of thy youth, but hast fretted (angered) me in all these [things]; behold, therefore I also will recompense thy way upon [thine] head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not commit this lewdness above all thine abominations. The HITTITE spirit within us, never considers that it is “fretting” or angering God. When we manifest it, we do not comprehend the con- sequences of our actions. Jesus tries to call our attention to it: Luke 9:54,55 And when his disciples James and John saw [this], they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. “Kind begets kind,” so a HITTITE spirit will only produce, raise and reap more little HITTITES. thee, saying, As [is] the mother, [so is] her daughter. Thou [art] thy mother's daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and thou [art] the sister of thy sisters, which lothed their husbands and their children: your mother [was] an Hittite, and your father an Amorite. The judgmental HITTITE spirit does not trust others. It is afraid of being treated badly by whoever is in authority, therefore it tries to be the authority. Then, when it gets into a position of authority, it treats others worse than itself. This HITTITE spirit is one-seventh of the Adamic human spirit. Later, we will give more detail and explain how the HITTITE spirit develops in us. Here are a few examples of a HITTITE spirit in action: A child who must always dominate others and be in charge of activities. Other playmates are never as important as his or her own ideas. When other children are in charge, a Hittite spirit will always resist them in some way. It cannot follow. It can only be forced into subjection by another Hittite spirit. A woman who must “wear the pants” in her family. She seeks to control her husband with tears, fears, anger, or whatever works for her. She lives to please herself and thereby disregards her children’s spiritual and emotional needs.    A man who always tries to override and   Slide9:          9.     Goshen was a region in northern Egypt, east of the lower Nile, where the children of Israel lived from the time of Joseph to the time of Moses. This definition says that it is “probab-ly” of Egyptian origin,” so the author did not know for sure. The first mention of “Goshen” was in Gen. 45:10. Joseph mentioned it AFTER he had revealed himself to his brothers. He was speaking Hebrew! “Goshen” means “close-by.” Joseph told his brothers to dwell in Goshen or to “draw near” and live “close-by.” The Concordant Literal account of Genesis substantiates this. Now it becomes easier to break the name “GIRGASHITE” down. “GSH” means “close” and “N” means “by.” Now we add the first part, the “GR.” “GR-GSH” then becomes “Burned lime – close.” All together then, “GIR-GASH-ITE” means “Burned lime - close - inhabitant,” or “one who dwells close to burned chalk/lime.” For our purposes, the GIRGASHITE represents the spirit of an UNRULY, UNBRIDLED TONGUE. James commented on it: James 3:6 And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.  This lying spirit of the GIRGASHITE cannot be tamed. James goes on to tell us that whoever can bridle the tongue is a perfect man and also able to bridle the whole body. It Pro. 22:24,25 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul. To the HITTITE in heart, all persons in authority (other than themselves) are the real HITTITES. Thank God, He is willing to help us overcome the HITTITE spirit within ourselves! Without Him, we can do nothing. B. THE GIRGASHITE BDB/Thayers # 1622 ysgrg {ghir-gaw-shee'} patrial from an unused name [of uncertain derivation] Girgashite or Girgasite = "dwelling on clay-soil“ To better understand this word, we can break it down. “Ite” means “inhabitant.” This lets us look for “Gir” and “Gash.” # 1615 rG!g {gheer} “chalkstone/lime from being burned in a kiln. It is more difficult to find the Hebrew word “Gash” (or “Gsh” without the vowel.) There is no single word in the Old Testament that is just “Gsh.” The closest we can come to it is by taking apart another word that has “Gsh” in it. That word would be “Goshen,” the residence of Israel when they were in Egypt. “Goshen” without the vowels would be “Gsh” with an “-n” on it. #1657 Nv#g {go'-shen} probably of Egyptian origin; "drawing near" or “close-by”   Slide10:          10.   with it. Thank God that Jesus can help us overcome this spirit also! C. THE AMORITE   BDB/Thayers # 567 yr]m)a$ {em-o-ree'} probably a patronymic from an unused name derived from 559 in the sense of publicity, i.e. prominence; # 559 rma {aw-mar'} a primitive root; to boast, to act proudly This differs from the “pride of life” mentioned in 1 John 2:16. That pride is our social consciousness when we are before others. That can be a problem also, but it is not quite the same as the AMORITE. The AMORITE represents the spirit of a PROUD LOOK or PRIDE in man. This is the part of us that actively “seeks our own glory.” This seeking of our own glory causes us to originate our own facts, our own teachings and our own doctrines. This spirit might even claim that “God showed (or told) us so!” It is interesting that most other people, can see through this spirit when it operates in us. Possibly because it doesn’t match their Amorite! In the church, the proud AMORITE manifests as self-righteousness. Through the prophet Ezekiel, God told Jerusalem that her mother had been a Hittite, but that her father had been an “AMORITE.” He said Jerusalem and her sister cities, Samaria and Sodom, were like their “mother,” is the same thing as saying “if you can keep the whole Law with just a human nature, you can also give yourself eternal life.” It is impossible to do so. That is why God sent Jesus. Without Him, we can do nothing. This lying Girgashite spirit CAN tell the truth, but when it does, it has the wrong motive. A few examples of the GIRGASHITE spirit in action are: -flattery and gossip in all of their various forms. -insinuations - Stirring others up by leaving certain words out of the conversation at precise moments so that listeners are left to their own imaginations to supply the missing thoughts. -all hasty speaking without due thought, and idle words which have no profit or point to them. -filthy speaking, swearing, habitual evil comments. -accusations: using laws or standards to put others in a lower place. -railings: speaking evil of others to harm their influence by using words like little needles, -fiery darts, arrows or gigantic spears. -constant, non-stop commentary regardless of the presence of subject matter or the lack of it. A favorite hiding place for a GIRGASHITE spirit is in humor. Sometimes we are not aware of it until we have burned someone else Slide11:          11.   need to study hard or work hard? I should just relax and enjoy life. The world owes me a living if they only knew it!” -Contentiousness. Pro. 13:10 tells us: “Only by pride cometh contention….” A spirit to argue and quarrel—THAT is the proud AMORITE. Thank God for the knowledge in Christ, the opportunity and his Presence to overcome the Amorite. D. THE CANAANITE BDB/Thayers # 3669 ynenk {ken-ah-an-ee'} a merchant, trader -patrial from 3665: # 3665 {kaw-nah'} a primitive root:to be humble, be humbled, be brought into subjection, to humble oneself. The CANAANITE represents a FALSE WITNESS, a spirit of GREED FOR GAIN in us.The CANAANITE spirit is always out for PROFIT. It sincerely believes that “gain is godliness.” The CANAANITE, unlike the Amorite, will gladly “lose face,” reputation, or anything else if it results in material profit. It uses humility for business purposes. How does Jesus feel about the CANAANITE spirit in the church? John 2:14-16 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove but now let us see if they were also like their “father.” Lets continue on in Ezekiel... Eze. 16:48-50a [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, ....   This scripture shows us that Jerusalem’s ‘sister city’ Sodom was more like their ‘father,’ the AMORITE.Here are some examples of the proud AMORITE spirit in us: -Saving our reputation, our “face.” We justify ourselves to “get the facts straightened out”. -False repentance. We want to say, “IF I have offended you in any way, please forgive me.” We do not want to say, “ I know that I have sinned against you. Will you forgive me?” False repentance usually makes things worse. -False humility. We drink deeply of attention, congratulations, praise, honor, awards and prizes. Yet we put on as if it is nothing. -Self-pity. We comfort ourselves with thoughts of, “No one recognizes my true worth, my sacrifices, my contributions, my dedication.” Most everyone else knows that our efforts always lead to our own advance-ment. -Laziness. “I am so important, why should I Slide12:          12.   ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. Here are some examples of the greedy CANAANITE spirit manifesting: -”This church could really ‘get up and go’ if they would only let me run it.” -”These people have a lot of truth. I am going to submit to all their silly rules and regulations until I learn what they know. Then I will discard the non-essentials, and people will have to come to me to get the truth!” -Competition. The CANAANITE spirit always puts down its competitor’s “goods” as inferior to its own “goods.” -In the church, this spirit never seeks to know the Master directly. Like the Biblical ass, It only seeks the benefits that it gets from being in church: Isa. 1:3 The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: [but] Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider. Israel was willing to make Jesus their king when they found he could fill their bellies. But when it came to “eating his flesh” and “drinking his blood,” they forsook him and contented themselves with Caesar. As the true church grows closer to God, there will be less and less of the CANAANITE spirit found in it. Where will they go? Where they find the most personal profit, of course: them all out ofthe temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers‘ money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. Peter warned us that the CANAANITE spirit would invade the ministry: 2Pet. 2:1-3 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumber- eth not. Finally, John tells us: Rev. 18:11-13 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, And cinnamon, and odours, and   Slide13:          13.   The Shulamite, a type of the Bride of Christ, described herself as a wall.... Song 8:10 I [am] a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favour. Then in Paul’s epistle to the Ephesians, he told them that they were.... Eph. 2:20 .... built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone]; When we consider what the “walled” city means spiritually, the choice to live in the open country rather than in an UNwalled city becomes a serious issue. Such a choice exposes a spirit that chooses independance because it cannot trust others. That is the essence of the untrusting PERRIZITE. Pro. 25:28 He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls. The PERRIZITE spirit in us believes that everyone should be allowed to “do his or her own thing.” It wants to set up camp when and where it wants, and be able to leave at a moment’s notice. This spirit will not defend anything or anybody - it would rather run away and avoid responsibility. Walls are a prison to a PERRIZITE, not a protection. A strong PERRIZITE spirit in a Christian will keep him from putting on the whole armor of God. He will feel too constricted, too bound, too hemmed-in, too Rev. 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. Even Babylon does better without the full influence of the seven Canaanites in it. However, because she nurtures all seven Canaanites in men, she will reap them all in time. Thank God we have a promise that we can come out, come clean and come over - all through Jesus Christ, our Lord! E. THE PERRIZITE BDB/Thayers # 6522 yzrp {per-iz-zee'} = "belonging to a village" from 6521 # 6521 {per-aw-zee'} or {per-o-zee'} villager, rural dweller, hamlet-dweller, open region from 6519 # 6519 {per-aw-zaw'} open region, hamlet, unwalled village, open country The PERRIZITE represents a freedom-loving, INDEPENDENT spirit in us that causes us to trust in our own advice. We need to consider that the city of Jerusa-lem was a walled city. Even New Jerusalem has spiritual walls:  Rev. 21:14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Slide14:          14.   unto us by them that heard [him]; Thank God, the PERRIZITE can be conquered, but only through Jesus Christ. F. THE HIVITE Strongs # 2340 ywh {khiv-vee'} Hivite = "villagers" perhaps from 2332 # 2332 {khav-vaw'} Eve = "life" or "living" the first woman, wife of Adam The HIVITE represents the spirit of IMAGINATION in man. It is interesting to note that the HIVITE name has descended in it’s usage from Eve’s name. Gen. 3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. The HIVITE then, is actually an EVE-ite, a dweller in Eve! Actually “Eve,” in this case, represents the heart of man.... Pro. 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it [are] the issues of life. This knowledge, coupled with the next scripture, helps us to “zero in” on the HIVITE spirit.... Gen. 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually. Gen. 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's   limited in action. Here are some more examples of a PERIZZITE manifesting in us... -Avoidance of fellowship, responsibility and commitments. -Extreme open-mindedness and leniency about people’s rights and life-styles. It’s motto could be, “You do YOUR thing - I’ll do MINE,” or, “Live, and let live!” -It shuns counsel from others, or if it cannot avoid it, it patiently listens, and then does exactly what it wants to do. If it pretends to seek counsel, it accepts only what agrees with it. Church, for the PERRIZITE in heart, is the Great Outdoors. It feels closest to God in the great “Cathedral of Nature.” This spirit only appreciates country that is “untouched by man” so it is impossible to possess your soul without destroying this Canaanite. The PERRIZITE is definitely not its brother’s keeper. It would not kill him like the Hittite would, or talk about him like the Girgashite would. It would not seek his praise and honor like the Amorite, or try to sell him something like the Canaanite. The PERRIZITE just wouldn’t get involved. It would be too busy “minding its own business.” The PERRIZITE spirit in us is the “Great Neglecter.” Heb. 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed Slide15:          15.   God is on its side, even when it is fighting him. This spirit will not put God first in importance. Natural family, friends, working at a job and having a good time are more important than God, the ministry, the church and their own salvation. Thank God that we have a hope to cast down and overcome the HIVITE as well! The example of Jesus’ obedience is our refuge! G. THE JEBUSITE: BDB/Thayers # 2983 yo!w[by` {yeb-oo-see'} Jebusite = "descendants of Jebus" the 3rd son of Canaan who lived in or around the site of Jebus, the early name for Jerusalem. From 2982: # 2982 {yeb-oos'} Jebus = "threshing place" from 947: # 947 {boos} a primitive root: to tread down, reject, trample down The JEBUSITE spirit in us represents HOW WE REASON in our natural discernment: Jude 1:10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. It is this part of our human spirit that decides what is good and what is evil or “wheat” and “chaff.” An unexposed JEBUSITE will always influence our decisions as to what is right and what is wrong. When we have conquered the JEBUSITE heart [is] evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. The HIVITE spirit is wicked because it trusts in itself. It is this part of us that causes us to be easily led astray, beguiled and deceived. This spirit is the deepest in us and will go to any length to survive. Unlike the independent Perizzite spirit, the HIVITE is a strong family-tied spirit. It is always innocent in its own eyes and believes itself to be normal, natural, loving, right, sane, etc. and makes everyone of its decisions accordingly. If the Perizzite spirit is the “Great Neglecter,” the HIVITE spirit is the “Great Pretender.” The HIVITE spirit in us is the source of all perverted and wicked imaginations. It heavily influences all creative, artistic and musical abilities. It is self-confident and self-justifying. Here are some examples of the imaginative HIVITE spirit manifesting: -”There is something ABNORMAL about “dying out” to the old man!” -”Don’t spank that child! That is just healthy rebellion. You should let him express his emotions. So what if he kicked you - you can take it! You’re an adult, aren’t you?” -”GOD said you should RESPECT your mother and father! Whoever said you should “forsake us” is CRAZY!” The HIVITE spirit in us usually claims that   Slide16:          16.   -”God gave me a message for the whole Body of Christ: You all need to repent and follow His End-Time Messenger...that is ME!” -”I am an Apostle. I am also a Prophet and a Teacher. I have a church so I am a Pastor. I also Evangelize from time to time. What are you?” -”Christ is my head. I don’t have to listen to anybody else because HE talks to me about everything and everybody!” -All false judgments. Personal ideas of right and wrong, good and evil, and the accompanying carnal zeal come from under the JEBUSITE’S foot. The results always favor a stronger establishment of the JEBUSITE: Rom. 10:2,3 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteous- ness of God. Thank God, that he can expose and help us to overcome the JEBUSITE. That spirit (along with the other six Canaanites,) is occupying territory that belongs only to God. 10. THE SEVEN ABOMINATIONS The word “abominations” is a key word in scripture. God used it to describe the works of the Canaanites: Deu. 18:9 When thou art come into the land   within us, we will possess it’s former area of operation. The natural Jebusite lived on the area that eventually became the city Jerusalem. As you probably know, Jerusalem became the capital city for Israel. The importance of this can be seen in the current conflict between the various national, political and religious ideologies today. Everyone has an interest to possess the city of Jerusalem, and all are making claim to it. Just as this area is the key to the future of the world, the “area” that it represents in our souls is the key to our entire future with God. This area becomes the foundation upon which God will build the “New Jerusalem” into our own souls. However, as long as the JEBUSITE spirit is stamping his feet on our threshing floor, we are reaping and sowing mischief. 1Cor. 8:2 And if any man think that he know- eth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. Here are some examples of the reasoning JEBUSITE at work in us: -All false revelation comes from this threshing-floor of the natural mind and will continue to do so as long as the JEBUSITE is not conquered. -All false “leadings” such as, “Pastor, God gave me a dream last night that you are supposed to decrease, and I am supposed to increase. What do you think it means?”   Slide17:          17.   As we mentioned before, the seven Canaanites replaced the seven-fold Spirit of God in fallen humanity. Because of this, the Canaanites have become the RELIGIOUS CENTER in each of us. This has resulted in a huge mystery of confusion. Having this religious center does not mean that a person is a a believer in God. It just means they believe in themselves more. By occupying a place that was meant to be for God alone, the “Canaanites” are really the basis of the Anti-Christ spirit. Confusion was its womb. It was conceived, formed and nurtured in the womb of confusion about God and Truth. The scriptural representation for such religious confusion is “Babylon.” This lets us know what spirit is operating in all man-made religious societies on this planet. A man may think he is simply organizing something to further his ministry, but the re-sults tend to take on a life of their own. Remember the story of Frankenstein? Some-times these “creations” end up destroying their “creators.”   God considers such activity as being un-faithful to Him. When His children rely on political systems for permission, provision or protection, they are proposing to “Caesar” and may find themselves doing what natural Israel did: John 19:15 But they cried out, Away with   which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. Then God explained six things HE hates, and that when they total seven things, they become a complete abomination to him: Pro. 6:16-19 These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. As you may have observed, the above seven things are another description of the activities of the fallen human spirit, along with the Canaanites. Lets compare them: A proud look.....................................AMORITE A lying tongue..............................GIRGASHITE Hands shedding innocent blood.........HITTITE Heart of wicked imaginations................HIVITE Feet swift to mischief.........................JEBUSITE False Witness speaking lies............CANAANITE Sower of Discord Among Brethren….PERRIZITE These seven abominations or seven nations of Canaanites are blended together in the human heart. It is very difficult to separate them. However, because of differing circumstances and choices in our lives, some may be more dominant than others.     Slide18:          18.   are themselves! -Men who comprise the FALSE WITNESSES that say they come in the “name of the Lord,” but who come in the names of their organizations, or under their own authority. -Men who SOW DISCORD AMONG BRETHREN! -who for the sake of their own unity and purpose, and in an “earthly name” seek to divide and put down those who are truly gathering and being gathered into Christ. Where do we find these ABOMINATIONS? Out “there?” No! Actually, we find them wherever we find human beings. The potential for all of this lies within each one of us. It just does not appear to be that bad in us, but IT IS! A seed always looks innocent when compar-ed to the mature fruit it produces. We all carry the seeds, but a “Babylonian” system con-ceives, births, nurtures, raises and trains the carnal nature until it matures and can prop-agate itself. Obviously, the true church does not operate that way. That is why we must change. We must put on the whole armor of God and fight what God delivers into our hands to fight. We are not to wrestle with flesh and blood, but with every principality and every power which has been built on the wrong principles. That battle is first within ourselves. 2Cor. 10:4-6 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting [him], away with [him], crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. Such systems do not raise God’s children, but rather nurture the seven spirits of fallen humanity. That is their base and that is their goal - all for the glory of God, of course! Consider their end... Rev. 17:5 And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. We know what harlots are. In this case they represent “daughter-systems” that pattern themselves after the activities of their mother, Babylon. We have been taught about them, but what we need to consider now, is these “abominations” that Babylon produces. These “abominations” that are produced by Babylon are her “sons”. They represent the ministries that actively propagate the systems and corrupt the “daughters.” They consist of the men with the PROUD LOOKS, the LYING TONGUES, the HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD until it has cried unto God from the ground! -Men whose HEARTS have DEVISED so many WICKED IMAGINATIONS about God, His will, life..... -Men whose FEET have been SWIFT in RUNNING over land and sea TO MISCHIEF and making their converts two-fold more the offspring of hell then they Slide19:          19.   Heb. 2:14,15 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through (natural) death he might destroy him that had the power of (spiritual) death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of (spiritual) death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. This spiritual “fear of death” in verse 15 is an acquired fear. We were not born with it. We were simply born with the capacity for it. We are born with only TWO fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. This is natural. Every other fear we have is acquired AFTER birth by either accidental or deliberate circumstances. The “power of death” that the devil uses is well documented in scripture:  Rom. 8:7,8 Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Jesus came to deliver us from the fear that keeps us subject to such bondage. There are seven roots to this fear, and they are “below ground” - in our subconscious and produce a “Canaanite” mind. If they are not exposed and faced in the light of God’s Word, they will continue to propagate fear and keep us in bondage to our fleshly nature. Should a Christian go to a non-Christian down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. Our fleshly nature is the dictionary and textbook of humanity. We are seeking to become one of the books of heaven - to be read and known of all men. When we learn about the human spirit within us, we will recognize it in all its forms, whether in a group or in an individual. The seven abominations are TRULY abominations!   11. THE FEAR OF “DEATH” It seems to be a universal urge for men to prove their manhood by daring feats of courage in the face of death. All this exercise simply proves that knowledge of death has a great affect upon us. If people were not afraid of death, there would be no “honor” in playing with it. However, it is not the fear of physical death that keeps us subject to bondage during our lifetimes. “Death” in the scripture is not limited to physical death. There is another kind of death, and IT is the one that enslaves us. Rom. 8:6 For to be carnally minded [is] death; but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace. Compare these two“deaths” in the following scripture: Slide20:          20.   3. When Adam lost the Spirit of Under-standing, he lost his heavenly source to be able to understand things correctly. -He became afraid to be single in his heart (simplicity) so he used his imagination to consider every alternative. -His human spirit warped to become one-seventh Hivite: a wicked imagination. 4. When Adam lost the Spirit of Counsel, he lost his ability to receive God’s counsel. -He became afraid of failure so he began to trust and walk in his own counsel. -His human spirit warped to become one-seventh Perizzite: a sower of discord among brethren. 5. When Adam lost the Spirit of Might, he lost his source of power and ability. -He became afraid of weakness so he began using words to change reality and control his situation. -His human spirit warped to become one-seventh Girgashite: a lying tongue. 6. When Adam lost the Spirit of Knowledge, he lost his ability to know as God knows. -He became afraid of being ignorant so he began to lean on what he could know naturally by his own efforts. -His human spirit warped to become one-seventh Amorite: a proud look. 7. When Adam lost the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord, he lost his heavenly source of balance. -He became afraid of what mankind had psychiatrist or psychologist? If you want to do so, go ahead! But you should be aware that the goal of psychiatry and psychology is to make you fit the “norm” (which happens to be the same thing as the majority of humans in our society.) So if you want to become just like everyone else, and live your life without an accurate knowledge of God, go ahead and use their services. And remember, their main motive for helping you is money. They do not love either your mind or your soul. Lets look at where this “fear of death” came from. It started when Adam lost the seven-fold Spirit of God. Lets see how the carnal mind develops by putting it all together:  12. SUMMING IT UP 1. When Adam lost the Spirit of the Lord, he lost his place, his position and his profit. -He became afraid of being nothing and having nothing so he leaned on seeking his own profit to establish himself. -His human spirit warped to become one-seventh Canaanite: a false witness speaking lies. 2. When Adam lost the Spirit of Wisdom, he lost his heavenly source of wisdom. -He became afraid of appearing foolish so he leaned on his own wisdom to save himself. -His human spirit warped to become one-seventh Jebusite: feet swift in running to mischief.   Slide21:  For the fear of Weakness: 2Cor. 12:9,10 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. For the fear of Ignorance: 2Cor. 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advan- tage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. For the fear of Man: Matt. 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 14. THE HORNETS God has a very unique way of helping us overcome. He stirs things up. God uses situations, and for all intents and purposes, these are called “hornets” in the scriptures: Exo. 23:28 And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee. Sometimes, the Canaanites attack us (the flesh warring against the spirit,) but sometimes they go into hiding. This is when God will use the “hornets.” Picture this: become, so he prepared his heart by harden-ing it.. -His human spirit warped to become one-seventh Hittite: hands that shed innocent blood. Ignorance of this process keeps us leaning on the carnal mind instead of God. 13. HANDLING SEVEN FEARS Just a few verses from Paul’s letters to the Corinthians covers all seven fears. For the fear of Having/Being Nothing: 2Cor. 12:11 I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing. For the fear of Foolishness: 1Cor. 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness For the fear of Simplicity or Singleness: 2Cor. 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For the fear of Failure: 1Cor. 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they shall fail; whether [there be] tongues, they shall cease; whether [there be] knowledge, it shall vanish away. 21. Slide22:  God chooses the Leader: Jos. 5:14 And he said, Nay; but [as] captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? God chooses the Enemy: Deu. 7:1 When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; God chooses the Warfare: Deu. 7:2,5 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, [and] utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them: But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire. God chooses the Duration of the War: Exo. 23:30 By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land. God chooses the Weapons: 2Cor. 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to You are walking through the “land.” You have your sword in your hand and you are ready, but you haven’t seen a single Canaanite in weeks! Suddenly, you hear a buzz, a loud “OUCH!” and an Amorite falls out of a tree about five feet in front of you! He is not about to admit that he was “stung” into action - he acts as if he was purposely waiting for you. He screams and comes at you, swinging his sword. He would never admit that if it wasn’t for the hornet you would never have known he existed. We Christians should ALWAYS expect God to be in the “hornets” of our circumstances. God can teach us how to be comfortable enough to enjoy being there, even during war. Look at these scriptures: Psa. 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: .... Rom. 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God [be] for us, who [can be] against us? 15. WHO DOES THE CHOOSING? We must learn that we are not in control of our own overcoming. This is evident when we consider that God chooses who can go: Heb. 6:1,3 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; ...And this will we do, if God permit. 22. Slide23:  17. SIHON AND OG Each nation of Canaanites had many “cities” and “villages” - each with its own “king.” Some cities and villages are listed, but most of them are not. This is because we differ from one another. However, battles that ARE re-corded in scripture are probably common to all of us. The first example is Israel’s battle with Sihon and Og, two of the many Amorite kings. They ruled, respectively, over the cities of Heshbon and Bashan. Let me make it plain. Within the area of our personal pride, we must battle two spirits or ruling attitudes. These rule over our reasoning and our emotions. If these two “kings” are not overcome, it is impossible to continue possessing our souls. The meanings of their names demonstrate a more complete picture: SIHON: #5511, from #5477 {soo’-akh} from an unused root meaning to wipe away Suah = “sweeping” King of HESHBON: #2809, from #2808 {khesh-bone’} from #2803 reasoning, reckoning As long as Sihon is alive to sweep and wipe things away in your reasoning, you will not be able to reason with God and His people. it is the first part of your pride that you must conquer. If you let your Sihon surrender, rather than killing him, he will live to haunt . the pulling down of strong holds;) God chooses the Finish: Matt. 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, [thou] good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.  16. CLEANING UP When you DO gain victory over some Canaanite in your life, don’t forget to clean up what it left behind. Here is how to do it: Deu. 7:5 But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire. Destroy their altars = places in you where they set aside to sacrifice your time and money. Break down their images = their objects for your attention, such as past memories, future worrys, selfish goals and visions. Cut down their groves = the things they planted, watered and maintained around them to cover and hide their idolatrous activities. Burn their graven images with fire = taking hold of any former thoughts and habits that have been carved out in your life, and continue submitting them to the burning fire of God’s Truth. 23. Slide24:  to live, walk and fight - all in God’s Spirit. Israel conquered 31 kings as recorded in the 12th chapter of Joshua. Be careful when you study them, because your Jebusites and Amorites want to take over and teach you what they represent. I have attended their school. I don’t recommend it. God teaches us in the fires of His choosing. Without patience we never come to the knowledge of the truth. Rev. 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and [that] the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. Pro. 20:12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them. 1Cor. 8:2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. Eph. 4:21-24 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.   Many people are not surprised to find that evil develops and grows. Timothy said: 2 Tim. 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall you and give you trouble at a later date. OG: #5747, probably from #5746 {oog} to gyrate and #5692 to bake King of BASHAN: #1316 {baw-shawn’} of uncertain derivation. Bashan = “fruitful” -a district east of the Jordan known for its fertility which was given to the half-tribe of Manasseh Nearly every time God referred to the giant king Og, He said, “Fear him not!” This lets us know that Og represented a gigantic FEAR to Israel. Og is a “gyrating,” “out of control” kind of fear that simply heats you up uhtil you feel like you are being baked in a fire. With this spirit loose to gyrate around in your emotions, you will never be able to bring forth any fruit for God. To possess the land of your soul, you will HAVE to fight. You will never possess your soul without being somewhat agressive about it. Yet, fighting in your own strength or going by your own understanding is just setting one Canaanite against another. Then the New-You is not overcoming anything. You must trust God to seperate your soul from the Old Spirit first, so your New Spirit can conquor its enemy. It is only through God’s Spirit that you can mortify the deeds of the body. When GOD brings something to your attention, don’t hesitate. GO AFTER IT. The “ites” won’t go away of their own accord. As long as they are around, they influence every thought and action you have. We must learn . 24. Slide25:  come from any one of the seven and can also be a combination of several of them. It would be useless to try to “diagnose” or trace down each thing to it’s roots. Whatever we put the majority of our attention on (put our “eye” on) will tend to fill us. This booklet is just meant to be a wake-up call to alert us to our need for Christ. We should all be aware of our Canaanitish spirit and know when it is seeking to influence us, but let us keep our eyes on Jesus that we might become filled with Him! No one knows what we are up against like Jesus does. He has been here and tasted it, and, I’m sure, has an excellent memory of it. He also knows what to do about it - all in accord with the perfect will of our Father in Heaven. We will be safe if we simply trust Him and continually seek to obey His instructions. After all, God has equipped Jesus with the ability to save us to the uttermost if we continue coming to God through Him. The power that is working in Jesus enables Him to subdue ALL things to Himself. The only thing that hinders God from working in us is our own neglect of His efforts. We often forget that we have TWO WILLS which come from TWO SOURCES within us. The one will is of the flesh and is purely Canaanite in all its activities. The other will is of that new spirit part of us that is born of God and is still immature. We should not simply rely on . wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. So it should not be suprising that a pattern can be seen in the scriptures. Please understand that this pamphlet is dealing mainly with the negative side of things. To balance with the positive side, read the pamphlet, “THE LAMPSTAND AND THE SEVEN SPIRITS OF GOD”. 18. OVERCOMING LEFTOVERS Jesus cut all the fruit off our tree when he first saved us from our past sins. He also pruned many of our most troublesome “twigs.” Yet, we all know that he left some things in each of us. This is so that we might learn to know HIM in overcoming the rest. Each problem area is a potential victory area. - A place for the manifestation of Jesus’ own life in our mortal flesh! Halle
