CANDIDNESS CANDIDNESS is nothing but the free expression of one’s true feelings and opinions which are frank, sincere, honest and straight forward. It could be verbal or non-verbal. It is nothing but “simply calling a spade a spade”

DECODING CANDIDNESS ▪ C FOR CORRECTNESS. ▪ A FOR APPROPRIATE. ▪ N FOR NOT POSING AND BEING REHEARSED. ▪ D FOR DIRECT ▪ I FOR IMPARTIAL ▪ D FOR DEVOUT. ▪ N FOR NEUTRAL ▪ E FOR EARNEST. ▪ S FOR SUCCINT. ▪ S FOR STRAIGHTFORWARD.

BEING CANDID IS NOT BEING DOWNRIGHT RUDE THINK OF A SITUATION OF A FRIENDWITH A BAD BREATHE PROBLEM AND PAY ATTENTIONTO ALLTHESE THREE SCENARIOS "Your breath stinks like a sewer!" - very rude, unkind and hurtful. There's just no excuse for that! The receiver of that comment would feel embarrassed and upset. 2) "If that awful smell is your breath, you have a problem!"That is straightforward and tactless (ie not considering the other person's feelings). Not as rude as the first comment, but still offensive. 3) Said in private, "I don't want to offend you in any way, because you are my friend and I care for you - but because I care, I have to tell you something. I've noticed a smell on your breath, and it could be an infection.A mouthwash like this one might help (producing it as a gift) but perhaps you should see a doctor to make sure. I'll come with you if you like?" The last comment comes from a concerned friend, offering advice and help. It is still straightforward but should not cause any offence.THISWHAT SHOULD BETHE ETHOS OF BEINGCANDID.

USE OF CANDIDNESS IN BUSINESS SCENARIO ▪ IFTHERE IS A POSSIBLE DELAY IN SOMEWORK STATE REASONS FOR DELAY IN A POSITIVEWAY,THIS MAY SOUND STRANGE BUTTHEN INORDERTO BUILD LONGTERM RELATIONSHIPS IT IS IMPORTANTTO BETRUTHFUL AND HONEST IN REASONING WITHTHE CLIENTS. ▪ THIS SOUNDS BASIC, BUT IT GOES BEYOND NOT LYINGTOYOUR CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES. IT’S ABOUTOWNING A MISTAKEWHENYOU MESS UP AND ADMITTINGWHENYOU’REWRONG. IT’S ALSO ABOUT REFUSINGTO PRETEND THATYOU’RE SOMETHINGYOU’RE NOT. IT REQUIRES ACKNOWLEDGINGTHE STATE OFTHE BUSINESSTOYOUR EMPLOYEES.AND,WHEN IT COMESTO CUSTOMERS, IT REQUIRES SELLING ONLYWHATYOU CAN DELIVER EFFECTIVELY AND ALWAYS LIVING UPTOYOURWORD.

NPR is a great example of a company that is honest with its customers. The station takes time at the end of most programs to share listener feedback on past shows. They share the glowing reviews, of course, but they also share customer outrage, disbelief, and disappointment. What’s more, when NPR has made headlines for less than desirable reasons, the organization has reported its own bad news as if it were any other media outlet, rather than shifting the focus. These actions— which many companies might be afraid to take—only serve to underscore the affinity that subscribers and listeners have for the station.THIS ISTHE REWARD FOR CANDIDNESS

CANDIDNESS in a nutshell. In all business transactions, one’s view of a matter should be honest and sincere and should reject prejudice or bias. The guiding principle should be fairness to self and to others involved in situation. In everyday life and business, we may see persons in power doing things such as appointing relatives to important positions, neglecting merit in assigning jobs/functions, or becoming inappropriately close to an individual or a group of individuals. Such actions are bound to emotionally alienate others from that person.
