1. © Partners for Innovation How to create a successful business case for building and infrastructure? Building Biobased Siem Haffmans Pakhuis de Zwijger 18 May 2016

2. Step 1: It starts with clients! Successful business cases start with the client Possible USP’s: 1. Biobased = Renewable 2. Biobased = Biodegradable 3. Biobased = Healthy 4. Biobased = Cool! 5. Biobased = Local

3. USP 1: Biobased = Renewable Synprodo / Isobouw - BioFoam BioFoam® is world's first bio-based foamed material for isolation products. • 100% renewable resources • PLA (poly-lactic acid) • Cradle to Cradle certified

4. USP 2: Biobased = Biodegradable Natural Plastics – the Keeper® Natural Plastics has designed a patented system for tree planting: the Keeper system. It offers many advantages such as: • a more natural look, • superior tree growth compared to tree stakes (+30%), • easy installation and limited aftercare, • storm proof • 100% biologically degradable. NatuDrain > NatuDrain is a venting and watering drain (perforated flexible hose) which supports trees in their growth.

5. RIGO Verffabriek - Aquamaryn • Biobased and local sources • Linseed oil • Nice smell (non-toxic) • Water-dilutable USP 3: Biobased = Healthy

6. NPSP / Poly Products Nabasco - Nature Based Composites Bio-composites are entirely made from natural materials such as flax, hemp, basalt, bio-resin and cork, while the unique properties of composite materials remain fully intact. USP 4: Biobased = Cool!

7. USP 5: Biobased = Local What can we do with local sources like waterplants? Old school: • Incineration • Composting • Energy pellets • Fermenting > Bio-energy Biobased resources • Bio-chemicals • Food or Feed? Biobased products • BtoB products • Consumer products

8. Building a biobased future? Yes, if you can find the right (niche) clients/markets. Yes, if you co-create good products, with USP’s. Yes, if you are a good entrepreneur!
