PASSING GO Ah well, homework, then. He turned the screen off and reached reluctantly for his schoolbag. Half of it was geography, which was nearly all colouring in and copying and drawing. Kid’s work. He had thought that the colouring would stop when he was at secondary school, but no such luck. Resignedly pulling the folder towards him and starting to shade in a patch of steppe …. He put the finishing touches to ‘Africa – main crops’ and looked, with disfavour, at ‘Africa – climate’. One day, work and life would not be this boring. ‘ Passing Go’ – Libby Purves (2000) SOME INSPIRATION ……

PUPIL EVALUATION – COMMENTS MADE “ A good balance of writing, practical work and group work. It was perfect and really fun and interesting.” “ I think this section of work was really interesting. I think the exercise we did on what kind of learner we are was really important. I would like to do more hands on and drawing stuff, but I suppose they are really time consuming! I like reading the travel writing, and I am going to read more Bill Bryson. All in all, I have learnt a great deal from the work we have been doing on shanty towns.” “ I quite like the making and the writing, but I don’t like watching the board for the whole lesson. Sorry!” “ I enjoyed the wide range of techniques used, especially the practical work and group work. I found the important facts sink in better.”
