The Long Answer • CDC: 9 months of breastfeeding decreases risk of obesity by 30% (CDC, 2011) • WHO: systematic review found 12% reduction in prevalence of overweight/obesity associated with breastfeeding* (Horta & Victoria, 2013) • AAP: 15-30% reduction in adolescent/adult obesity if some breastfeeding occurred in infancy (AAP, 2013) • AHRQ: Breastfeeding reduces risk of obesity in adolescence/adulthood by 424% (Ip et al, 2007)
