Women in Business Conference : Women in Business Conference Peace and fulfilment comes from living in harmony with what matters most to you. Stress. : Stress. When we are acting not parallel with our inner values. Values. : Values. These are your core beliefs / priorities in life. They are the hidden guiding rules that direct your decisions / actions. What are the real core things you are prepared to die for. (Write them down) Example of crossing the iron beam On the ground. Suspended between towers. Would you cross for money / rescue your child. This type of challenge helps you to crystallise out your true values. Values. : Values. Your self-esteem raises if you day to day activities are in synch with your value system. Vital questions you must answer. What do you value most in life?. Why are you doing what you are doing?. What changes could you make in order to bring your time usage and your life priorities more into alignment?. Map : Map Genetic Acquired. Influencers Family. Church. Media. What gets punished / rewarded. They are all trying to impact our basic values, so that our resultant action will be of a desired nature in most instances. Guilt / reward emotions, depending on our action alignment with these values. Outward / Inward. : Outward / Inward. Many people achieve outward success but are at war with themselves internally. In their personal lives / relationships etc. It is much more difficult to Identify. Define Admit Solve these internal problems. Can you identify with this? Empty Life. : Empty Life. “I have achieved success and I am on the fast track in my career, with all the perks etc, yet why does life seem so empty?”. We have lost touch with what is really important to us. Family / friends. Job satisfaction. Helping others Making a difference. Everything has a price (2 broken marriages) President Mandela Symbolism. : Symbolism. We weren’t meant to be empty raincoats. Nameless numbers on the payroll. The raw material of economics. Statistics in some Government report. There must be more to life, than being a cog in someone else's wheel. Can we be both Ourselves. Commercial selves. That is the paradox Charles Handy Decisions. : Decisions. You are where you are based on the decisions you made in the past. Where you will be in the future, depends on the quality of your decision from now on. Input / output model. Your Voice. : Your Voice. Find your voice and inspire others to find theirs. (Stephen Covey 8th Habit) When you engage in work that taps your talent and fuels your passion, as you do something important that’s needed out there. This is your voice being energised. Know your Worth. : Know your Worth. People over value what they are not and undervalue what they are. Why perfection isn’t a viable goal : Why perfection isn’t a viable goal Setting extreme targets is a major cause of job-related stress and burnout. I wonder why so much is written about how to achieve your goals and so little about choosing them wisely? How to. : How to. People love “how to” advice, That could explain why advice on achieving goals is far more prevalent than advice on how to choose them. If the goals themselves are incorrect, uncertain, ill-defined, or unsuitable, knowing how best to achieve them is pointless? Alignment. : Alignment. Make sure that you select goals that truly represent your own values and desires. It’s too easy to choose goals thoughtlessly or pick up ready-made ones. There are plenty of people eager to tell you what your goals should be. But unless your goals are truly yours, and right for you and your circumstances, you won’t have the patience, determination, or interest to see them through to achievement, whatever that may take. How do you know if your current goals aren’t right for you? : How do you know if your current goals aren’t right for you? When you forget them, keep changing them, or feel you can’t summon the energy to keep pushing against the obstacles. When they cause you more stress and discomfort than you can handle comfortably. When they cause the people you care about more stress and unhappiness than they deserve. When achieving them is going to demand total devotion to that and nothing else—and you know that you want more than a single-track existence. When each achievement costs so much that it brings you as much pain as pleasure. Dreams : Dreams Bicycle. Make goals of your dreams, not dreams of your goals. Advance in the direction of your dream, but in a planned basis and surprise yourself. If you don’t know where you are going any road will do. Running fast down the wrong road, will not get you to your destination. What do you want to do sometime?. : What do you want to do sometime?. ”I don’t have time” ---wrong. Its just that your priorities are different. What is your dream. What do you really want to do with the rest of your life. If you want it badly enough, then you have the time. Its about priority. Exercise –write on card What would you really like to do if time and money was not an issue. It is never too late to become what you really want to become Mission. : Mission. Are you living your life in a fog Experience of driving in fog ---no vision. The lack of personal vision can be physically and emotionally debilitating. No fun in getting out of bed in the morning. You are just existing. Clarity of vision gives you the same feeling you get, when you drive through the end of the fog, to the clear light. Your own Mission Statement is a bit like the fog lights in your car. It helps to cut through the fog and give your more guidance. Mission Cont. : Mission Cont. What do you want to be remembered for ?. What “difference” do you want to make ?. As your life circumstances change, you need to redefine your “end game”-------Mission. Looking through difference “lenses” gives you a different vision / direction / perspective. Exercise Objectives. : Objectives. “---women grows not by what is given her, but by what is expected of her” Creative Tension. : Creative Tension. The GAP between your vision and current status creates tension. This provides the energy. Options. Move towards your vision. Reduce your vision (moving Goalpost). Rubber band. Only mediocre people are always at their best. Formula. : Formula. Discover. What is most important to you. What do you want to be? Plan. Your life based off these beliefs / principles Act. What events have been most influential in your life? Why. “To thine own self be true”. “Be yourself, but be it perfectly”. Roles. : Roles. Its difficult for us to play roles that “grate” our deepest values. “To thine own self be true”. If miss-matched, there is guilt / pain. What we do depends on how we feel about doing it. When you perform in line with what you value, you experience an inner peace of mind. Keep what you do in line with your values. Role Models. : Role Models. Their profile. Self aware. They know who they are. Allows them to achieve extraordinary results. Mother Teresa (physically small but achieved massive outputs). Confidence. Self worth. What others see in us. A strong sense of personal Mission. Vision of what is to be done and the passion to make it happen. Personal Magnetism. Able to suck in the resources. Awareness and respect for their own uniqueness. A consistency in their lives. A sense of calmness and serenity. Your ? You as Role model. : You as Role model. What signals are you radiating. Who is modelling themselves on you. Belief. : Belief. What you believe about yourself, determines how people treat you. Motto. : Motto. “Its better to wear away, rather than rust away”. Success. : Success. Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life, as by the obstacles that one has overcome while trying to succeed. Success. : Success. "Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire." Russia. : Russia.
