Orgnaoid aggrangement Tumor cells grow in an organoid nesting arrangement

Typical carcinoid : A carcinoid tumor with fewer than 2 mitoses per 2mm 2 and lacking nectosis Atypical carcinoid : A carcinoid tumor with 2-10 mitoses per 2mm 2 and/or foci of necrosis. Frequently show some degree of nuclear pleomorphism Calcifications are characteristic (up to 30% of cases) Small ‘punctate’ area of necrosis justifies a diagnosis of ‘atypical carcinoid’ Brief review of carcinoid tumor
