We are ambassadors for Christ

2 Corinthians 5:20-6:2 We are ambassadors for Christ Excerpts from The Catholic Lectionary. 2009. Bellingham, WA: Logos Bible Software.

5:20 So we are ambassadors for Christ, as if God were appealing through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake He made Him to be sin who did not know sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 6:1 Working together, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For he says: “In an acceptable time I heard you, and on the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is a very acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

An ambassador is an official representative of one country to another country. All of us are Christ’s ambassadors to our families, our workplace, cities and country who are obliged to bring God’s message of repentance which will hopefully result in reconciliation. V. 2 how could believers reject God’s message? People heard St. Paul’s teachings but they weren’t allowing it to affect their day to day life. This is similar to leaving the church parking lot on Sunday, how many Christians willingly allow you to cut in front of them? Are they demonstrating secular pride and arrogance or Christian humility and love?

Aren’t pride and arrogance a rejection of Christian love and charity? Aren’t we like the Corinthians? We hear the message but don’t always follow its teachings. God offers salvation to everyone but not everyone accepts it. Many people put off Christian living to a more convenient time. Oh, I’ll continue to cheat people on a business deals until I have enough for a down payment on a house and then I’ll repent. While your theft continues you are playing Russian Roulette with eternity. There is no time like the present to repent and receive God’s forgiveness.
