Slide1:  Slide2:  Albrecht… Was born in Nuremberg Germany to a Hungarian goldsmith and his wife in 1471 Began a 3 year apprenticeship, at age 15, in 1486 with one of the leading German craftsman of the time Michael Wolgemut Would make three journeys of interest abroad, one to France and Holland and two to Italy, in his lifetime bringing back from each of them additional expertise in his chosen mediums as well as a new understanding of art Married Agnes Frey upon returning in 1491 to Nuremberg from his first trip abroad to France and Holland Was made aware during his second trip abroad, to Italy, between 1494 and 1495 of the problem for which he and his fellow artists of Northern Europe would eventually have to face that of reinterpreting classical art just as the artists of Italy were currently doing By 1499 to 1500 matured artistically and became well established as a great artist of his time but he also began to write books on art as a theorist which would several centuries later become just as famous as his art Would further master his chosen mediums through experimentation in his Nuremberg Workshop from around 1500 to 1505 Would make his final trip abroad, to Italy again, between 1505 and 1506 just as the Plague reached Germany in search of ‘the secret of proportions’ From around 1507 to around 1514 would completely assimilate into his work, while still keeping his individual touch, all of what he had learned abroad From 1515 onward would mainly focus on his Nuremberg Workshop, its workers, and the various commissions he got from such clients as Maximilian I, sole ruler of Germany, and Charles V Germany’s new ruler upon Maximilian’s death in 1519 In 1526 completed his final great work the twin paintings collectively called 'The Four Holy Men' which he gave to the city of Nuremberg as a gift Albrecht Dürer died and was buried at the St. John Cemetery of Nuremberg in April of 1528 at the age of 57 yet he has been and always will be remembered throughout the years by his artistic accomplishments The Life Of Albrecht Dürer Slide3:  The Accomplishments Of Albrecht Dürer Albrecht… Completed his first major work a silverpoint self-portrait at 13, 'Self-Portrait at 13' Completed in 1498 his woodcut masterpiece the 'Apocalypse'('The Revelation of St John'), a woodcut series of 15, which is renowned as the greatest German woodcut plus is credited with marking the beginning of the modern graphic novel Completed in 1502 his watercolor 'Young Hare' which is credited as one of the first nature studies tackled by an artist Completed in 1507 his twin paintings 'Adam' and 'Eve' the first life-sized nudes in Northern European history Completed in 1508 his painting the 'The Martyrdom of the Ten Thousand', in which he created a three dimensional representation of his work by reducing the size of objects the further they were away from the observer Completed in 1511 after finally mastering proportions and perspectives his greatest painting 'The Adoration of the Holy Trinity' Completed from 1513 to 1514 three of his greatest engravings 'Knight, Death and the Devil', 'St. Jerome in his Study', and 'Melencolia I' Due to his ability to stay true to himself as well as assimilate into his own work all of what he had learned abroad is credited as being the first German to become internationally famous in his own lifetime Slide4:  Overview Of Albrecht Dürer’s Art Albrecht… Works include Paintings, Drawings, Watercolors, Woodcuts, Engravings, Etchings, and Drypoints Was most interested in Woodcuts and Engravings Is most famous for his Woodcuts and Engravings Used most of his Drawings as preliminary studies for future Paintings, Woodcuts, or Engravings Watercolors were almost always of landscapes and naturalistic scenes including animals Experimented with both Drypoints in 1512 and Etchings from 1515 to 1518 but the results did not please him so he stopped working in both mediums Completed throughout his lifetime four notable self-portraits which clearly shows his progress from a Northern European Artist to a High Renaissance Artist Slide5:  The Art Of Albrecht Dürer – Self-Portraits Albrecht completed many self-portraits in his lifetime Slide6:  The Art Of Albrecht Dürer -
