MBPS in most cases: MBPS in most cases Caretakers induces or fabricates symptoms. Most often the person with MBPS is the mother. Significant mortality rate. Average age of victims is 4 years old. The caregiver is familiar with the medical field. Why do they do it?: Why do they do it? Attention Tricking people they see as superior to themselves Marybeth Tinning : Marybeth Tinning   Known as a prime example of Munchausen by proxy syndrome . Born in Duanesburg, New York Her father worked at electric company, had one brother, lived a normal life. Worked low wage jobs until she ended up at  a nurse's aide at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Met Joe Tinning on a blind date and married in 1965 The deaths of Marybeths children: The deaths of Marybeths children 6 th Mary Francis 7 th Jonathon 8 th Michael 9 th Tami Lynne The beginning: The beginning The couple had 3 children together Barbara Joseph Jr. and Jennifer. After Tinning father died Jenifer (the their youngest) was sick since birth and never left the hospital. 17 days after Joseph was brought to hospital because of “seizure” doctors sent them home then he was brought bad hours later dead. Similar situation 6 weeks later with Barbara The continuation: The continuation Tinning gave birth to a son named Timothy. Three weeks later he was brought in to the hospital, she claimed to find him dead in his crib. His death was contributed to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). 1975 tinning gave birth to Nathan she claimed to find him in her car not breathing. It was again attributed to SIDS. Tinning started a adoption process, but later found out she was pregnant again, she continued with both the adoption and the pregnancy. She received Michael from an adoption agency and gave birth to Mary Francis. She was brought to the hospital once for a seize but they were able to revive her, soon after tinning brought her back and she was brain dead. This too was attributed to SIDS The final children: The final children After Mary Francis death Tinning became pregnant with Jonathan the same thing that happened with Mary Francis happened with Jonathon Less than 1 year after jonathans birth tinning brought Michael her adopted son to the doctors and he was lifeless. Because he was adopted this broke the theory that the genetics were a genetic cause. The last child Tami lee was born. The day Tami died Cynthia Walters their neighbor and a practical nurse went shopping with tinning and that night got a phone call that the baby was unconscious, and was pronounced dead that night. The suspicion: The suspicion Officers have been suspicious of Tinning for years. Marybeth agreed to questioning although she wasn’t arrested She understood Miranda rights and waived them She kept on saying “I didn’t do it!” After further interrogation she admitted to 3 out of the 9 deaths. She smothered Tami, Nathan and Timothy. In court she said she was just repeating what the cops said. The trial: The trial In 1987 Marybeth Tinning was charged with 2 nd degree murder of her 9 th child Tami Lee. She was found guilty and sentence to 25 to life in prison. In 2009 she went to court to get parole early and Tinning said, "I was going through bad times when I killed my daughter." The board, believing that her remorse was "superficial at best," denied her parole. She was denied early release in 2011 and 2012. : In 2009 she went to court to get parole early and Tinning said, "I was going through bad times when I killed my daughter." The board, believing that her remorse was "superficial at best," denied her parole. She was denied early release in 2011 and 2012. Tinning seems to be a sociopath, she feels no guilt, remorse or shame The first death of her child along with her father seemed to set her off to keep having children and killing them. She also seemed to enjoy playing people. She was said to always look devastated when bringing in a dead child. Tinning displays the two motivations for these types of killings, she got a lot of attention from it and felt powerful from deceiving medical professionals. The End: The End
