Midtowners at Karaikudi !!! We, Midtowners embarked on our trip to Karaikudi on Myladuthurai Train on Saturday afternoon. No sooner than the train left Mysore, we were all looking at Vishwa for his supply of fruits . He never disappoints! We were treated to an assortment of cut fruits including Blueboom, Black Grapes, Water melon etc., washed down with the help of grape juice courtesy café Srini. The whole compartment was filled with the aroma of biriyani brought by café Srini. Sundar couldn't resist the temptation. Not only he, but also the T.T., who came & enquired about the menu! Finally it was the dinner time! A heavy dinner to end the day. Now the whole compartment was filled with noise as many Midtowners were competing with each other in making louder snoring noise. Sometime it felt like relay race where batons are exchanged as they took turns in snoring! We woke up to a frothing filter coffee at Trichy .We hopped on to the waiting cab for our next leg of journey towards Karaikudi. One more round of coffee by Chef Muthu welcomed us to Rtn.Alagappan's abode. We got refreshed and visited Pillayarpatti Ganapathi Temple for Lord Ganesha's blessings. Back home had a spread of lunch followed by a Siesta after that long journey. We were all ready dressed up in White-Dothi-Shirt and Angavastram. We reached Rotary club of Karaikudi well in time to a warm welcome by the host club. A wonderful joint meeting followed exchanging pleasantries and lot of views on both states Midtowners handed over Mysore pak and mementos over to Karaikudi Rotarians. They returned the gesture with silver plaques and shawls. Midtowners donated Rs.5000/- to Rotaractors. Next day we visited Rameshwaram. A wonderful trip with a mix of fellowship and spirituality came to an end as we boarded our train to Mysore. Thank You Rtn. Allagapan for generous hospitality and Rtn. Srini for a meticulously planned trip. - Rtn.Thana Mohan

Practical Innovation Rotary Information A new heads-up display for surgeons allows them to see cancer cells, making it much easier for them to remove the entire tumor without damaging neighboring, healthy tissues. The goggle display system works by taking advantage of the properties of indocyaninin green (ICG) dye, a fluorescent dye that binds to blood plasma proteins, and the highlyvascularized nature of tumors. After the dye has injected into the patient's bloodstream, it is subjected to a special light sent out by the goggles that will make the dye glow blue. This glow can then be superimposed onto the real time surgery scene in front of the glasses. The tumors, with their larger supply of flowing blood, will glow more vividly than the surrounding tissue and allow the surgeons to better identify the cancerous tissue. RI.Dist.3230 created a Guinness record by creating the largest human image of a hand formed by 7,084 people in Chennai on 5th October 2013. Congratulations!!! Rtn.Gopala Krishna was honoured with Lifetime award 2013-14 by DEALiT for his 25 years of significant contributions to Mysore IT fraternity. Hearty congratulations to Gopalakrishna & CPPA.
