Guidance for evaluating your Advanced Portfolio

A2 MEDIA – EVALUATION FOUR KEY QUESTIONS In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?  How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?  What have you learned from your audience feedback?  How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? 

IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS? Write/talk about how your research informed your main task here  What conventions did you observe in your research which you then went on to use in your production?  Why is your production an effective piece? 

HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS? Write about how the ancillary texts reinforce the message of the main task  Try to explain how the three texts would work together as a marketing strategy 

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK? Select a few comments from your audience feedback and explain what you have learned from them  You can also refer to verbal feedback given to you by other people 

HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?  Subdivide this part into sections: Construction  Research  Planning  Evaluation    Remember to explain how you used the technology as a tool to help you create your products Refer in particular to the way new media (online tools) helped you to share and develop your work through blogging etc.  Outline which technologies you have used in each stage, including:        Premiere, Photoshop etc Blogger (including html embed codes) YouTube Slideshare/Scribd etc Cameras, sound kits etc Any sound editing/music software Anything else!

A GOOD EVALUATION… Is concise and simple  Is illustrated with examples from the production and research at every opportunity  Uses media terminology and theory  Shows good ICT skills in its construction (e.g. vlog, director’s commentary, Issuu publication, interactive presentation…or any combination)  Refers to online tools such as blogging, YouTube etc as ways of developing the production through research to planning to construction to evaluation 
