A TRIBUTE TO THE 2009 BBLEP My Journey Out Of The Stone Age, On The Path To Modern Productive Pedagogy in ESL/EFL

Applications Application-What I learned (in no special order) Blogger –This is a great way to share a lesson and have your students grow in this real-world use English skills of Reading, Writing, Grammar, Vocabulary, and most of all, Thinking/Reflecting. WizIQ –No matter what the traffic conditions or weather, hosting a real-time, multi-media lesson is very easy and productive. Twitter –A tool of the future. Use it to share where you are, or events that are happening. Use it as a teaching point. (For example, teach your students that some fire departments are using it for emergency information.) Yahoo Groups –Besides for recreational uses, this provides a central area for lessons and student feedback. Skype –This low cost (or free) IP Telephone is worth its weight in gold. Now that I’ve been introduced to it, I’, going to order its wireless headset and use more often. (Next step buy a Skype phone number  )

Web Sites These are a couple of the new, tremendously powerful web sites useful for teaching, and helping your students’ self-instruction: http://www.multimedia-english.com/ (try the “Jokes” button for some great listening practice. (Follow up by asking your students jokes that they know.) Also use the Phonetics page and use the “minimal-pairs” to develop critical listening skills. http://periodicvideos.com/# For listening, comprehension, and help for students who are interested in the sciences, this just can not be beat. Each element has an interesting descriptive video. (I have watched many and they all were great. Try the titanium element…)

Conclusion The 2009 BBLEP informed me on many technology based tool to improve my teaching skills. I should re-take this seminar as there was so much more useful material described. My next step will be to methodically share these insights with my fellow teachers and incorporate these technologies into my lessons. Thanks to everyone, Especially Miguel Mendoza, Evelyn Izquierdo, Teadira Pérez. You are fantastic teachers and I never even heard so much as raised voice as you gently instructed your world-wide class.
