God’s Command Helps protect and develop my relationship with God. Provides a pure and clean environment for the Holy Spirit to function in my life. Caring for the heart is an act of obedience showing God our love and faith in Him How to Care For My Heart:  How to Care For My Heart The one who really knows exactly how to take care of my heart is our Heavenly Father! He knows exactly what I need and when I need it. A good starting place to find out how to care for my heart would be to ask God Pray and ask God to show me the things in my heart that are harming my relationship with Him. A Relationship is Required:  A Relationship is Required I must be in a relationship with him where I am able to understand and practice the thoughts He gives me. Jesus modeled the care of the heart Silence, solitude and prayer. “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place when he prayed.” Mark 1:35. Fixing Broken Windows:  Fixing Broken Windows Role of the Spiritual Disciplines Guarding My Heart The Purpose of the Spiritual Disciplines:  The Purpose of the Spiritual Disciplines To bring us into a close and regular relationship with God Allows us to grow and be strengthened Allows us to do what needs to be done…when it needs to be done Spiritual Disciplines:  Spiritual Disciplines “My central claim is that we can become like Christ by doing one thing…by following Him in the overall style of life He chose for Himself. We can, through faith and grace, become like Christ by practicing the types of activities He engaged in, by arranging our whole lives around the activities He Himself practiced in order to remain constantly at home in the fellowship of His father…such things as solitude and silence, prayer, simple and sacrificial living, intense study, and meditation upon God’s Word and God’s Ways, and service to others.” - Dallas Willard (Spirit of the Disciplines) Spiritual Disciplines:  Spiritual Disciplines Caring for the heart should be the top priority of my life! What place does God have in my daily routine, my thoughts, desires, attitudes and practices? The greatest commandment in the Bible is, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matt. 22:37 The most important part of your body in God’s eyes is my heart. Take good Godly care of it! Perfect practice makes perfect. The Nature of Temptation:  The Nature of Temptation To be tempted is NOT a sin Usually begins before we are aware When we become aware the Holy Spirit provides a warning and way of escape (1 Cor. 10:13) Deal with temptation when it is an urge, thought, fantasy, idea Intensity of temptation increases Seven Stages of Every Temptation* :  Seven Stages of Every Temptation* James 1:14-15 “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Conclusion:  Conclusion The Enemy builds strongholds in secrecy and enforces them by silence……break the silence and break the stronghold. The Enemy takes us further than we intended to go….keeps us longer than we intended to stay….and the price is greater than we ever intended to pay. He seeks to blind us from the consequences of sin.
