5 of the most powerful quotes by the great Jim Rohn. Handpicked by me. The ultimate reason for setting goals for ourselves is to become the person it takes to achieve it.

5 Jim Rohn Quotes That Will Change Your Life (This article is from a blog post in JersPassageway.com) I love quotes. And I love asking my interviewees their favourite success quotes. Recently, I’ve been seeing a lot of quotes by Jim Rohn around the web that really resonated with me. And so I was inspired to write this article. I never really had a favourite quote, but I think I’ve finally found mine. 1. “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.” This just had to be the first one. It’s classic. People you hang out with have an influence on you, like it or not. It works on you at a subconscious level. Successful people know this and are strategic about it. Whatever you want to do, just go surround yourself with people who are the best in your field. Who you associate with most is who you become, so spend as much time as you can around the people that you’d want to be like. Soon enough, you’re going to cultivate and learn their habits.

Their routine. Their crazy work ethic. Their skills. Their attitude and mindset. And pretty much anything that’s got them to where they are now. Just imagine myself a few years ago living with 5 world-class flutists in the same house. Galway, Pahud, Bouriakov, Bezaly, and maybe Rampal’s spirit. I would probably pick up their practice habits and get top-notch advice every day from flutists who have already made it and are touring around the world. Plus I think my flute tone would literally become the average of the 5 of them! Hang out with 5 confident people, you’ll eventually be the 6th confident person. Hang out with 5 idiots? Just another idiot. Hang out with 5 people who’ve made the impossible possible? There you go. 2. “Formal education will make you a living. Self-education will make you a fortune.” Formal education is over-rated, period. Most self-made millionaires had either a crappy formal education, or none. Steve Jobs. Richard Branson. Mark Zuckerberg. Bill Gates. First of all, do you even read books? Did you know that a successful author of a book needed a lifetime of knowledge to write it? Did you know that for 20 bucks or less, you could be picking the brain of this awesome dude who has decades of experience and expertise under his belt? Now think about what you could become or what you could create, if you read a book written by a successful entrepreneur every week and applied your new-found knowledge to good use as soon as you complete the book. Just so you know, the average American reads less than 1 book per year. So if you did this, you would have read 50 books a year. According to Brian Tracy, this is equivalent to getting a practical PhD in your field each year. Now what happens in 10 years’ time? You’re obviously going to become one of the best in your field!

With that much value to offer, THAT is where you’re going to make a fortune. People pay according to the value that you bring to the table. Don’t forget that your university tuition fees doesn’t even cover on how to become wealthy. Neither does it cover on personal development. Start getting into the habit of reading daily if you haven’t already. Continuous learning is essential, so don’t stop after university. Invest in yourself. I can’t stress that enough. 3. “Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” This is such a simple one. It’s all about forming the right habits and being consistent with it. There is a similar quote by Aristotle that goes like this. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. Every single great accomplishment in life is the result of thousands of minor accomplishments that nobody ever sees. It can be quite demoralizing when you don’t get noticed and you don’t see results in the initial stages. Just remember to keep moving forward and don’t ever allow yourself to stagnate. Your efforts will accumulate. Even Mozart had to beat on his craft for about 10 years before producing something that became popular. Find ways to stay motivated and stick to a schedule. And don’t procrastinate! If you decide you will write 500 words a day, then make sure you write 500 words a day. If you decide you will go to the gym 3 times a week, then hit that gym 3 times a week. Just keep going. I’ve never broken my schedule of publishing 1 article within 7 days of the last, except when I was serving the army for a week. Consistency is key.

4. “The ultimate reason for setting goals is to entice you to become the person it takes to achieve them.” A lot of people forget what the real deal is here. It’s not about reaching your ideal weight or your ideal income. Neither is it about winning first place in a competition or achieving something within a specified time frame. It’s all about the process. What you learn, what you gain, and what you become from it. I’ve heard somewhere that some people think success is not everything, and that what these people were really trying to say was that money was not everything. Yes, I 100% believe money is not everything. In fact, far from it. But success is not about earning lots of money and becoming wealthy. Think about the kind of person you become as you face all sorts of obstacles and challenges along the path towards riches. The skills and personal development that you inevitably have to pick up along the way. And all that knowledge. That’s the REAL deal. And if that’s what success is about, then success is EVERYTHING. This applies to every other goal, not just wealth. When you are “successful” in achieving whatever dreams you have, think about the person you become from it. 5. “Your level of success will seldom exceed your level of personal development.” I once read in a fellow blogger’s article. He says that the reason why he cares so much about improving himself is because his life depends on it.

SO true, I can’t agree more! OUR lives all depend on our personal development! Just think about it. Whatever you want to achieve in life, whatever kind of person you aim to become, you first have to work on yourself. INVEST in yourself. Sharpen your skills. Change your attitude. Improve your character. Show that you care. That’s when you will start attracting the success that you desire. Success will not increase your level of personal development. It does not work the other way round. There’s 2 things I noticed about successful people. They ALL invest in personal development, and they ALL have a ton of value to offer for FREE before they even think of making any money. They understand that in order for anyone to trust you, you have to show that you truly care about them in the first place. It’s all about the relationships you build. That’s personal development. They give away free stuff so the entire planet can benefit, even when they don’t feel ready to whip out their wallets and buy their products. So what would you say your life depends on? I can say with conviction, mine depends on my personal development. So did you guess which of the 5 is my favourite Jim Rohn quote? . . . Your level of success will seldom exceed your level of personal development. Man, I really love that one.
