Description

The IDT 4E series MEMS oscillators integrate an LVDS or LVPECL output with a synchronous CMOS output into a single package, eliminating the need for an external crystal or secondary oscillator. Available in frequencies up to 600 MHz, the new oscillators save board area, simplify the application circuit, and reduce BOM cost in high-performance applications. Additionally, the oscillators feature two control pins to select between four factory-programmable output frequencies, allowing for the replacement of four components with a single device for inventory consolidation. The IDT 4E series oscillators are designed with the physical dimensions and pinout of an industry-standard six-pin oscillator to maintain backward compatibility with existing sockets. Transcript ● Hi, my name is Andrew Luchsinger, Technical Marketing Manager at IDT. Today I'd like to introduce our 4E Series, Enhanced MEMS Oscillators. These oscillators build upon our 4M family, but offer multiple outputs, multiple selectable frequencies, and all in a backward-compatible industry standard package. ● The 4E MEMS Oscillators feature an LVDS or LVPECL differential output and also include a fully synchronous CMOS output in the same package. The devices are offered from 50 megahertz up to 600 megahertz with plus or minus 50 PPM frequency accuracy. The additional pins on the package allow us to preconfigure the device with four frequencies of your choice, allowing a user to select the frequency they'd like to use. The device is offered in both a 2.5 volt and 3.3 volt supply option and features output enable for both the differential output as well as the CMOS output. The package is seven by five millimeters with a standard six-pin configuration, but includes four additional pins used for the CMOS output, the CMOS output enable and the two remaining pins used to select one of the four frequencies. By using a standard package with a standard six-pin configuration, it allows the device to be used in a standard socket. The device operates over the full industrial temperature range of negative 40 to 85 degrees C, and because it's a MEMS device offers 40 times better reliability than quartz, with no activity dips, no zero time failures, jitter resistance to EMI, and excellent shock and vibration resistance. ● The benefits of the 4E series include four selectable output frequencies that are preconfigured at the factory allowing you to consolidate and reduce your inventory. The additional fully synchronous CMOS output results in no asynchronous timing concerns, effectively eliminates another crystal oscillator from your board, which helps you to reduce costs and improve your PCB layout flexibility. The fact that this is a semiconductor process in MEMS means that there are no production shortages, which eliminates the need for inventory stocking and management and enables just-in-time manufacturing, something that cannot be realized with quartz-based products. MEMS also offers higher reliability. As mentioned before up to 40 times better than quartz and allows us to leverage standard batch semiconductor manufacturing processes. Cost savings can also be realized because we use standard low cost molded plastic packaging and a semiconductor manufacturing process.
