Lend Lease Act 1. Date- 1941 2. Proposed by- FDR [Franklin Roosevelt] 3. Main idea-to lend military weapons to Britain during the WW II era 4. Reason to pass- It was against American law to just give them stuff and Britain was broke. If we didn’t lend it to them, they could lose the war

NATO 1. The purpose of NATO- [North Atlantic Treaty Organization] To form an alliance against the Soviet Union- if they attacked one member country, all of the other countries would join in and help them defend themselves 2. Who joined- US and western European nations

Red Scare 1. Against- The spread of communism 2. Color associated with this group- red
Senator Joseph McCarthy 1. What he was known for- finding communists everywhere, even where there were none 2. What his critics, in particular Senator Margaret Smith said about him- He was a greater threat to the nation than actual communists 3. What happened after Mr. Welch questioned him- his credibility [believing in someone] was destroyed

United Nations 1. Purpose- to prevent future wars
Korean War 1. Fought on the communist side- The US and S. Korea were winning until China began to fight with them [The US fought on the noncommunist side with the S Koreans]
Causes of the rise of Middle Class American after WW II 1. Neighborhoods- Mass produced homes 2. Opportunities- Lots of them due to the GI Bill 3. Unions- Strong unions that got members good pay
Impact of Baby Boom on Society 1. Economic- They spent lots of $ on all of those children 2. Politically- They became very politically active [going to antiwar protests etc] 3. Affect on cultural values- They became socially active and challenged values at the time [marriage was not as important] 4. Affect on college enrollments- All of those kids went to college so college enrollments went up
Brown v. Board of Education 1. Year of decision- 1954 2. President at the time- Eisenhower 3. What it said- Schools had to be desegregated
Space Program 1. Kennedy’s motivation- He wanted the US to have the first man on the moon This put us in a space race with the Soviet Union 2. His goal- Do it in 10 years
