But the Internet is Dangerous•Protect fromTechnology

Hi, I’m 14 years old, in grade 9, how about you?

Technology or People – where does the problem lie?• I read this book …. While driving my car…. The Internet has become a tool for public humiliation

Vigilante Justice• Story of the Dog Poop Girl

Vigilante Justice• I know I was wrong, but you guys are so harsh. I’m regret it, but I was so embarrassed so I just wanted to leave there. I was very irritable because many people looked at me and pushed me to clean the poop. Anyhow, I’m sorry. But, if you keep putting me down on the Internet I will sue all the people and at the worst I will commit suicide. So please don’t do that anymore. Source: Popular Gusts Blog

Vigilante Justice• Story of the Cat Bin Lady

Vigilante Justice•

Public Humiliation • “Absolutely no forgiveness here lady. Despicable evil specimen”“Keep covering this monster!!! Make her life miserable like she made the cat’s life miserable”

Vigilante Justice •…in Coventry, England…Mary Bale, 45, found herself caught in the crosshairs ofthe reputation executor that is the web this week after a surveillance video of herplacing a cat in a garbage bin went viral. Now, the Internet is replete with parodies, groups and spin-offs dedicated to bringing Bale down.According to The New York Times, Lola the cat was discovered unhappily yowlingin a garbage bin outside the home of owners Stephanie and Daryll Mann. In hopesof discovering who had trashed kitty, the couple looked at security footage of thearea, which showed an unidentified middle-aged woman petting the cat, and thendropping it in the trash. The couple posted the video online, naturally, in an attemptto find out who the woman was.Subsequently, Bale received death threats, and information like her address andher boss’s phone number were spread around the web.Although Bale was placed under police protection (due to the aforementioneddeath threats) she did issue an apology yesterday after Facebook was forced totake down a group titled “Death to Mary Bale.”

Focus on Relationships

Technology has had minimal impact in the past• “Today’s learners need something more attuned to their daily lifestyles – connected, and often virtual. That’s where mobile learning comes into play.” Pg. 59

Learning goes beyond the classroom• No matter how much equipment a school or classroom has, unless the educators are well prepared, confident, and have had the chance to practice, little will change in the classroom Pg. 107

Equipment alone is not the solution• “Simply inserting technology into classrooms and schools without considering how the contexts for learning need to change, will likely fail.” Allan Collins pg. 140

Some of the students were not getting it, so in 2-3 minutes they had looked up relevant information on the topic(example: Leon Trotsky) and were able to give some background immediately.
