Slide14:  The females will lay their fertilized eggs in a single communal nest, a simple pit scraped in the ground The nest may contain 6 to 15 eggs Slide15:  The eggs are incubated by the females by day and the male by night. Slide16:  The gestation period of the egg is 35 to 45 days. Slide17:  Typically, the male will tend to the hatchlings. Slide18:  Today, ostriches are bred all over the world, including climates as cold as that of Sweden. Slide19:  They will prosper in climates between 110°F and −40 °F, and are farmed in over 50 countries around the world. Slide20:  Since they also have the best feed to weight ratio gain of any land animal, they are bound to appear attractive to farmers Slide21:  It is claimed that ostriches produce the strongest commercially available leather. Slide22:  Although they are farmed primarily for leather and secondarily for meat, additional useful byproducts are the eggs and feathers. Slide23:  Ostrich meat tastes similar to lean beef and is low in fat and cholesterol, as well as high in calcium, protein and iron. Slide24:
