Unlocking Doors’ 2007 Applicant Demographics:  Unlocking Doors’ 2007 Applicant Demographics Unlocking Doors Overview:  Unlocking Doors Overview This report was created to analyze the demographics of our applicants, identify key cities and schools and determine their correlation between higher educational attainment and ethnicity. Mission: Unlocking Doors Scholarship promotes the advancement of first-generation college bound, low income women in the San Francisco Bay Area by providing scholarships towards obtaining a four-year college degree. By supporting higher education, we strive to empower a new generation of educated self-sufficient women who will serve as role models for other women in their communities. Alameda County was the highest represented with 35% of total applicants SAT average - 1490 Average Family Income – $25,138 Median Family Income – $24,000 Ethnicity – Top three highest percentage were Asian American with 42%, Hispanic American with 24%, and African American with 18% By our March 31st, 2007 deadline we received an outstanding 174 applications. This staggering number shows that the need for our scholarship is great. Below you will find an overview of our applicant demographics. Applicants by County:  Applicants by County The top three most represented counties are Alameda, San Francisco, and Santa Clara. City and High Schools Represented:  City and High Schools Represented Number of High Schools Represented – 91 Top High Schools: Skyline High School, Oakland Oakland High School, Oakland Lowell High School, San Francisco El Camino High School, South San Francisco Antioch High School, Antioch Galileo Academy, San Francisco Oakland Technical High School, Oakland Nearly 25% of applicants live in the City of Oakland, located in Alameda County. This illustrates the concentration of students in need are located in the underprivileged city of Oakland. Applicants by Race/Ethnicity:  Applicants by Race/Ethnicity While ethnicity does not play a part in scholarships awarded to top ten finalists, the data below illustrates a correlation between ethnicity and first generation college-bound women.
