These are 15 surefire ways to make you happier at work and at home. These will also help you maintain healthy relationships with your family, friends and acquaintances.

1 Our mood is in our hands, so we can choose to react to any situation however we want—either allow yourself to be sucked into a negative state of mind, or rise above that and be happy despite the traffic! Let go of your complaining.

2 Instead of endlessly questioning why something bad happened and letting your problems cause you unhappiness, step up and spend time looking for solutions. You don’t just get the problems solved, you become happier with finding challenges, new things to do, and seeing hope at the end of the process. Step up from the problems with solutions.

3 Most of the hurdles we face in life are actually ones that we have concocted up in our minds, they are imaginary, unreal and they are what prevent us from moving forward, not our actual circumstances. Free yourself of these. Let go of any self-defeating ideas, your fears, attachments, and excuses.

4 Happy people are those who love themselves. Happier ones know how to get a daily treat, mostly a few minutes of doing things they love most on their own. Meaningful alone time is a powerful need and a necessary tonic in today's rapid- fire world and helps bring us joy in relationships, our creativity, and our peace of mind. Always have a “me” moment every day.

5 Happy people’s humour and aspirations are infectious, and it’s always fun to be around friends who make you smile. Be around happy people.

6 Make your work meaningful, fun, and always interesting. Avoid routines that often lead to de- motivation and dissatisfaction. Re-write boring correspondences, rearrange your work area and put positive pictures and objects around you. Make your career a source of joy.

7 Some people tend to aim too high and realise their goals are beyond their reach, and this leads to plenty of frustration. Realistic dreams are easier to achieve so make sure your goals are well-defined and well-designed. The road towards it will see you in a happier pursuit. Be realistic with goals.

8 A man without direction wouldn’t know what makes him happy, so it’s understandable that a life without purpose is a sad one. Knowing your reasons for being in the world makes you love being alive and become happier in the pursuits you take. Have a purpose and know it, too.

9 There are so many more important things in life than worrying what someone thinks of your shoes, what you do for a living, or the car you drive. In the same light, criticising anything and everything that you don’t understand will get you nowhere. We are all different and that’s what makes life beautiful. Let go of trying to impress other people and the need to criticise them.

It’s important for every person not just to be honest at all times, but to live according to how they truly want themselves to be. 10Be yourself and live in all honesty.

Studies show that the notion of anger catharsis is foolish. Expressing anger related to minor, fleeting annoyances just amplifies bad feelings, while not expressing anger and “sleeping on it” often allows it to dissipate. 11Do let the sun go down on anger.

Feelings follow actions. If you’re feeling low, deliberately act cheerful and you’ll find yourself actually feeling happier. If you’re feeling angry at someone, do something thoughtful for that person and your feelings towards them would soften. This strategy is uncannily effective. 12Fake it till you feel it.

13 Savour what’s going on around you right now, instead of looking a few hours or days ahead or looking back at things that cannot be returned. If you enjoy what you’re doing, just enjoy it fully while you can. Leave the past behind and let later take what’s in it. Live the moment, not the past, and not the later.

Our every action must be done because it’s good and because it is hoped to give good results. Never do something just to disprove others or because you’re angry, envious or want to beat others on a race. 14Put a positive premise to every act.

Prayer and meditation allow you to look deeper into your soul and your life. That means finding many good things about yourself, erasing ill feelings, discovering areas in your life you need to become better, and being happier about who you are. 15 Meditate. Or pray.
