History of Music The medieval era - in this era music depended on pitch or note, on which the song was to be sung The Renaissance Period - the sounds of this era were depended on the smooth polyphonic style, which is seen in the music of Lassus, Palestrina and Byrd. The Baroque era - This ear included the basso continuo and had a belief in the doctrines of affection. The classical period – musicians moved away from Baroque and Renaissance, and embraced a clean and organized sense of music. The Romantic era – This era allowed artistic freedom, by moving away from the classical style of music. The modren/20 th century era – this can be defined as mysterious form of music which is refined and vague in form.
